Hade’s POV

“I want the nicoise salad and a medium rare steak,” Marissa hands the menu to the waiter bearing

111 have the burger, fries, and onion rings,” I grunt, passing the menu over and leaning back in my chair

He silently vanishes, picking up on the tension. It’s awkward Having dinner with Marissa suddenly seems like a bad idea. I’m not in the mood for polite conversation and fake niceties Not that she notices. She’s too engrossed in the moment and herself. How had I never noticed before just how self. centred she was? I sigh, feeling tired and wanting nothig more than to get this meal over with so that! can go back to my room, alone.

“I’m so glad that you brought me to dinner. How did the inspection go?” Marissa attempts small talk

“Fine,” I answered abruptly, “I expected nothing less.”

After all, I didn’t tolerate idiots or half-ass attempts. I expected excellence, nothing less. Especially if I were funding the venture.

“Oh,” she said in a small voice. “That’s good, I guess.”

“What did you do this afternoon?” I attempt to be civil, my eyes scanning the crowd out of boredom

“I had a spa afternoon. It was great, Hades,” her voice went back to being cheerful, “I had a manicure, a pedicure, a massage,” she ticked it off her fingers, “and even a facial.”
