Chapter 99
She couldn’t make out the expression on his face but she didn’t care. She smiled with happiness. Finally, he had kissed her and it had been exquisite. She was almost bouncing up and down on the seat with joy
“Yes,” she whispered, clearing her throat.
He turned his head back away. She leaned back in the chair beaming. She’d waited for this moment, this slight sign of affection. Surely this meant he was starting to have feelings for her? He wouldn’t have kissed her if he didn’t. She felt confident now that things were going to be fine between the two of them, looking forward to the wedding and the subsequent wedding night that was going to be the night of her dreams if she had anything to do with it. She sighed, looking happily out the window, barely seeing the scenery passing by.
Hades was silent, brooding. He’d kissed Marissa as a test, a way to see if he would experience the same heat, the same tingling, the same arousal as he felt with Raven. IT had been an experiment of sorts. He’d also done it to keep Marissa quiet, tired of her constant complaints and sobbing. But he’d felt nothing but revulsion when he kissed her. Her lips had been slimy and he’d been unable to bring himself to penetrate her mouth completely. It had felt like he was kissing a slug. It had taken e3verything he had to finish the kiss and pull away without offending her. There was no chemistry between them, not even the slightest flicker of a flame. She would be the perfect example of the type of wife he wanted, not desiring her at all. He ignored the protests of his wolf, used to them by now.
Marissa sashayed into the house, feeling victorious. She could not wait to tell her mother the good news and inform her about her progress, knowing how pleased she would be. That is if she could get hold of her, she frowned, trying once again to phone her but received only a voicemail. She sighed and then turned her attention to what she was going to do next. Now that Hades had kissed her, she was certain they could develop the relationship even further. Mother had told her to expect a package in the mail, something that would help her chances. She wondered what it was. As she glanced around her room she saw a small envelope on her table along with a postage stamp. She ripped it open and smiled to herself. This was perfect. No wonder mother had sounded so confident. Now she had the means and all she needed was the opportunity. She carefully put the package away, hiding it so that nobody would see
Hades was growing uneasy. He tried to feign nonchalance as he glanced around the packhouse failing to pick up a familiar scent. He coughed.
