Chapter 23

“Oh my goodness, it’s almost 2 PM, and we’re still not done!” my mom panics, pacing across the room.

She’s been like this since morning.

“Your brother and the Alpha are already at the sacred grounds. We need to hurry! Kenna!” she yells for my sister -in-law.

I just stand there, staring at my lifeless eyes in the mirror, which don’t match the purity of the white dress on my body.

It’s my wedding day-but it might as well be my funeral.

“All done with the veil attachment. You’re ready to go,” Marc says from behind me, and I give him a small smile.

“Thank you,” I murmur as he helps me step down.

“What is about Crystal and their daughter? Do they know any of this happening?”I ask my mom.

“Honey, don’t worry about anything. All that is important is that you are home and going to seal the bond” she sighs and kisses my cheeks.

I don’t get why everyone is ignoring questions about my sister and her child.

Marcus comes closer,

He takes my hands, making me look at him.

“You look beautiful. Don’t let him or anyone else bring you down. Always remember-you have someone to count on. I’m just one call away, and I’ll drop everything for you. You have me, your mom, and Tasha.”

He presses a gentle kiss on my forehead.

“Thank you. Thank you so much, Marcus. I’m happy we found each other.” I hug him tightly, fighting the tears threatening to spill.

“Come on, let’s go.” He takes my hand and leads me outside.

I stand at the end of the aisle, gazing at the crowd. The entire pack and other important figures are seated, waiting for me.

Zander stands at the altar in a black suit, his hair neatly trimmed and slicked back.

As the music begins to play, I step onto the white-tiled aisle. The guests rise to their feet, watching as I walk toward Zander, my veil trailing behind me. I force a fake smile and clutch my bouquet tightly.

Halfway down, my brother meets me and walks me the rest of the way.

As he places my hand in Zander’s, he nods

Zander nods.

Kaden steps away, and we both turn to face the priest. The ceremony begins.

Two hours later, it’s over, and we move to the reception, where people begin offering their congratulations.

“Congratulations, Luna! Hope you and the Alpha give us an heir soon,” a pack member says with a smile.

My fake smile falters.

I know she means well, but she shouldn’t have said that.

“Thank you,” I mutter absentmindedly.

As the reception winds down, people begin to leave. Soon, it’s time for Zander and me to leave as well.

“You can leave too, you know. We’re not going anywhere like people expect us to,” Zander says beside me.

I stiffen.

“I can’t do that, Alpha. The entire pack expects us to have an heir soon. The council is already on our backs. I made a vow to my people, and I need to fulfill it. Have you forgotten about the full moon ritual? It’s tomorrow. I want to meet my sister and your daughter. I need to know what you are doing to help her”

It’s not that I want to have sex with him. The very thought repulses me. It makes me want to vomit.

But I need to survive-for Marcus and my mom.

Zander exhales loudly. “I don’t think you’re ready for that, Serene. Crystal and Liana are both too fragile for anything. We can mark each other, but the baby-making part can wait.”

“You don’t have to consider my feelings or pleasure, Alpha. The only thing that matters is my duty to the pack. But I still want to see them”

He sighs again. “Leave, Serene. I’ll come pick you up tomorrow night.”

Then, to my surprise, he pressed a soft kiss to my forehead before walking away.

Kenna won’t stop gushing over how beautiful I look in my ritual attire.

I almost forgot-heat starts today.

I nearly jumped on Marcus when he entered my room this morning.

Even though Zander and I are married, we haven’t marked each other yet, which means my body still responds to any strong male presence.

Luckily, Kenna stopped me before I could do something I’d regret.

I’ve been locked in my room for hours, the windows sealed shut.

At some point during the day, I heard Zander clawing at my door. I could hear Atlas, his wolf, whimpering in

pain.

Chapter 23

“Oh, I’m sure you’ll be ending up with a mini Alpha tonight,” Kenna giggles as Mom ties my hair.

She fastens Luna’s Necklace around my neck-a crescent-shaped white moon with stars and a gray wolf.

She wraps a ceremonial robe over my dress, and we’re ready to leave.

“And that’s a bad thing how? It’s time we had an heir. A true heir,” Mom smiles lovingly at me.

We head to the ritual grounds.

The moment we step inside, Ria becomes edgy.

“Hold her, Faye. They can smell them,” Mom orders.

Faye and Kenna grab my hands in a tight grip, leading me into the circle.

I kneel, and the ceremony begins.

The women bless me-praying for fertility, a happy marriage, and a prosperous year for the pack.
