“Serene, what are they talking about? What is going on here?” Kaden says from behind Zander.

“Nothing… Nothing happened! What are you all doing here?” I ask, looking at everyone.

“You are not redirecting the question, Serene! Not today! You are going to tell us why you left the pack 10 years ago. You are telling us now!” Zander’s voice booms with his Alpha authority.

“Fine! You want to know what happened? Fine, I’ll tell you! I WAS RAPED! WHILE YOU WERE BUSY LOVING MY SISTER, YOUR BEST FRIEND WAS FORCING HIMSELF ON ME. HE RAPED ME RIGHT HERE ON THE FLOOR OF THE PACK HALL. I PLEADED AND BEGGED HIM TO LET ME GO, BUT HE PAID NO HEED. I CRIED OUT FOR YOU, ZANDER, I CALLED FOR YOU SEVERALLY, BUT YOU DIDN’T COME. HE BROKE ME THAT DAY, HE TOOK MY INNOCENCE FROM ME, HE TOOK SOMETHING THAT DIDN’T BELONG TO HIM! SO WHILE YOU WERE ALL BUSY CELEBRATING MY SISTER, I WAS BEING RAPED!” I yell every word, angry tears flowing down my face.

“That is not all. Your freaking best friend got her pregnant!” Marcus yells and walks to me, pulling me into his

arms.

“What?” Zander whispers in shock.

“I was really young. I didn’t even have money to buy food, my savings weren’t enough to sustain me even for a month. A week after arriving in York, I was thrown out of the motel I was staying at. I began sleeping on the streets and eating leftovers from dumpsters behind restaurants. During the night, men raped me simply because I was helpless. Then I found a way to make money with my body-it was already a waste anyway. I began selling myself for a day’s meal. But that wasn’t even enough, it failed me just like everyone else. Once my bump began to show, they didn’t want me anymore–who wants a pregnant prostitute anyway? I went back to the streets, being raped again and again. Until I gave birth to my son. He was malnourished and sick, so he died in my arms-which was good for both of us anyway. I began to work in a restaurant and saved enough money so I could leave this country for good. And that was the best decision of my life. So don’t tell me I am the one responsible for what is happening to Crystal, because I have been through hell and back because of her.” I tell them, beginning to sob in Marcus’s chest.

I can hear my mom and Tasha sobbing, but I’m in too much pain to look at them.

“Everyone leave! I want to be alone with Marcus!” I tell them.

“Baby… oh, my angel… let me hold you,” Mama says, but I shake my head.

“Leave! Please, Mama!” I cry.

“You heard her! Everyone leave!” Marcus’s voice booms in the room.

Slowly, everyone leaves, but I can feel his presence. He stays for a while, and then he also leaves.

“You did so well, my girl,” Marcus says, hugging me closer.

God, why couldn’t I love him?

I didn’t leave my room the entire day yesterday after the revelation with my family.

This morning, my mom, along with Kenna and Tasha, came to my room.

They only asked me to follow them, and I did because I was too tired and Marcus wasn’t here when I woke up.

So I don’t understand why I am back in my childhood home.

“Why are we here?” I ask.

“The Alpha and your mom think it is best if you stay here for a while,” Tasha says.

“And this place is better how?” I ask.

“The pack house is where everything happened, so in order not to trigger the memory, this place is better,” Kenna says with a sad smile.

“How is my childhood home a better place? A place I grew up with the person who hurt me the most?” I ask with a raised eyebrow.

“Well, you can stay at my house. Gem would be so happy to have you over. He has been asking about you for a long time,” Kenna says.

“No. I don’t want to stay at a place I’m not welcome. I’m okay at the pack house,” I tell her, and her face saddens, but that is the truth.

Kaden still holds some unknown grudges, and I am too tired to face him too.

“Look, Serene, I have known you for a very long time. You are my best friend, and we all want to be there for you mentally,” Tasha says.

“You all want me to feel better? Okay. Then let me go back to England. I was fine before, I was happy there, I was thriving. Yeah, so if you can make that happen, then I’ll be happy,” I snap at her, even though I didn’t mean to. I know she means well, but all I want is to be left alone.

“Look, I’m sorry for snapping at you, but with everything going on, I’m really stressed. I just want everything to be over with,” I tell them.

There is a moment of silence before Kenna speaks again.

“Oh! I have an idea. Since Rya and Gem are with the nanny, I was hoping we could go dress shopping today. You know, I have some girl time,” she says, and I suddenly remember something.

“Did any of you see Marcus this morning?” I ask.

They look at each other with a scared expression.

“What is that? Why are you looking at each other like that? Did Zander do anything to him?” I growl.

“No, no, no. No need to go all Luna on us. Alpha, Beta Zack, and your brother, along with Marcus, left the house this morning. They didn’t say where they were going, but Marcus looked okay,” Kenna says, and I sigh in relief.
