Chapter 38
I may have forgiven Zander for Louis’ sake, but I don’t want us to be a couple again. Co-parenting works just fine.
We already planned it out-once Louis turns six, I’ll move back so he can begin his training. And also Liana is back there, they are really good friends. She is almost 13 and looks like a mini version Crystal, she is growing into a beautiful woman.
She couldn’t make it to the birthday because her father is getting married today.
“Alright, everyone! Time to cut the cake!” Marcus announces. “Serene, sweetheart, you still haven’t picked a dress for my wedding.”
I roll my eyes as Crystal swats him. “Thank you, Crystal,” I chuckle.
Marcus and Crystal are getting married next week, and I’ve been handling all the wedding preparations- including designing the bride’s dress as my gift to them.
I still can’t believe they are getting married. They’ve grown so much together. Crystal is about to graduate From the university of Edinburgh with a degree in human resources. They both understand each other and late year after he proposed, it was beautiful by the way,in Italy on our vacation, she found out he was her second chance mate. Which made everything better.
They really understand each other. I am like a proud mama.
“Aunt Reni, can I have some cake too?” Rya tugs on my dress, her hair in cute pigtails.
“Of course, sweetheart.” I hand her a strawberry slice, her favorite.
She’s here with her older brother, Kenna, and their father.
Also Matt and Crystal resolved things and she gets to see the children during their vacation. They all love Ma including Liana
It’s the first time I’ve seen him since I left the pack. He never came to visit Louis after he was born.
Mama said he was too ashamed.
“Serene… can we talk?” His voice is hesitant, unsure.
I kiss my son’s forehead and stand. “The kitchen.”
He follows me inside, and I stop near the counter.
“What do you want to talk about?” I ask.
Kaden shifts awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. “I know I messed up. I was the worst brother in the world, and I’m sorry. I took sides. I didn’t believe you. I pushed you away. I said horrible things… Meanwhile, Crystal was the one who was truly horrible. I let grief and anger blind me, and for that, I am so, so sorry.”
I fold my arms. “You don’t get to be sorry now, Kaden.”
His lips part, but I don’t let him speak.

“You never liked me. Since we were kids, you always took Crystal’s side. Remember third grade? When she and I fought, you didn’t even hear my side of the story. You just left me at school until Mama came for me. You’ve always been biased against me.”
His jaw tightens. “I never meant to hurt you. I just thought… Crystal was weaker than you. You were brave, confident. I didn’t want her to feel inferior to you.”
I let out a bitter laugh. “Everyone saw her as weak while I was the one struggling. I was the one she bullied. I was the one who felt inferior.”
Kaden looks away. “I know. Now I do. And I’m sorry.”
“Forgiving you is easy. And I do forgive you.” I inhale sharply. “But we will never be siblings again. I lost my brother the day he called me a whore. And you lost me the day you chose her over me.”
Tears gather in his eyes, but he blinks them away. “I understand. I just hope this doesn’t stop you from loving my kids.”
“I love them. And I always will.”
I walk back to the party and see Louis on Zander’s lap, giggling as they play.
Zander is laughing too-but there’s sadness in his eyes.
“He misses you,” Marcus whispers beside me. “He loves you. You can see it. He’s proven it. It wouldn’t hurt to give him a third chance.” 2
I raise an eyebrow. “I can’t believe you’re saying this.”
“Trust me,” Marcus smirks. “For the sake of your son, give Zander another chance. If he screws up, I’ll blow his
head off.”
I snort.
Then, after a moment of silence, I whisper, “I’m scared.”
Marcus squeezes my hand. “I know. But it’s going to be worth it. I promise.”
I hope so.
