Chapter 37
New Life, A New Beginning
“Hi, little prince.” I whisper to the tiny angel in my arms.
Mama has cleaned both of us up, and now, we are in my bedroom. He’s wrapped snugly in a soft yellow cotton blanket, his tiny fingers peeking out.
He stares at me with the most breathtaking green eyes I’ve ever seen-Zander’s eyes, with a faint sprinkle of my brown ones. His blond hair, my button nose, his father’s lips.
It feels like Zander did all the work, and I only contributed.
“You are so handsome, my baby. I love you so much. I am your mommy.” I whisper, brushing my finger along his cheek.
He sticks his tiny tongue out at me, and I chuckle softly.
The door opens, and the doctor enters with Mama, Marcus, Crystal, Liana, and Zander.
“How are the baby and mommy doing?” the doctor asks, his warm smile reassuring.
“We’re fine.” I smile, still lost in my little world.
“Good. I’ve left a prescription with your husband, and I’ll need to do a check-up on the baby next week. Congratulations again. I’ll see you soon.”
Marcus follows the doctor outside, likely to settle the payment.
“Have you breastfed him?” Mama asks gently.
“No, Mama,” I shake my head.
“Then it’s time to feed your son.” She sits beside me, guiding me through the process.
“Can I see baby now mummy?” Liana asks and Crystal looks at me. I nod with a smile,
Liana crawls closer to me on the bed and leaks at the baby,so does Crystal.
“Wow..he is so handsome. He looks like Uncle Zander” she giggles.
“She does. Congratulations sister” Crystal smiles and I smile back.
“Thank you”
“Okay, come now Liana, Aunt Serene has to feed baby” she says and Liana who is fascinated groans but she gets down but before kissing the his forehead.
They both leave to join Marc.
Zander settles into the chair nearby, watching his son with pure admiration.
With Mama’s help, I adjust my little prince in my arms, and the moment my nipple brushes his lips, he latches instantly.

“Someone was hungry.” I chuckle, and both Mama and Zander laugh softly.
“Have you chosen a name yet?” Mama asks.
I glance at Zander. We had already discussed baby names.
If it was a girl-Winter Elora.
If it was a boy-Louis Autumn McLean.
“Louis Autumn McLean,” I say firmly.
Zander exhales deeply, almost in relief. Did he think I would change the name?
Just because we aren’t together doesn’t mean I’d do something behind his back.
“Do you want to hold him?” I ask.
His head bobs eagerly.
Mama helps him position Louis properly in his arms. The baby, now full and content, drifts into sleep.
Zander gazes at him as if he’s the most precious thing in the world.
“Look at you… Daddy loves you so much, baby. I will protect you with everything I have. I won’t let anything happen to you. You are my bravest hero,” he whispers, pressing a gentle kiss to Louis’ forehead.
I know Zander still carries the pain of losing Rare, but I hope-deep down-that Louis fills that sadness with joy and laughter. 1
For now, I am content.
Three Years Later
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you. Happy birthday, dear Louis, happy birthday to you!”
Laughter and claps echo around us as my little munchkin leans forward, blowing out his candles.
“Did you make a wish, sweetheart?” I ask, ruffling his blond curls.
“Yes, Mommy!” he giggles.
“What did you wish for, champ?” Zander asks.
Louis pouts slightly. “That you and Mommy live together again. I want to live with both my mommy and daddy, just like my friends do. And I want to cousin Liana often because I love her! She is my best friend.”
The room quiets for a second. I can hear the sadness in his voice.
“I wish that too, son.” Zander’s voice is soft, sincere.
