live like humans..we just have the ability to transform into wolves!

He node but continues scanning the city with fascination.

I don’t know how Mama will react. I just hope she is not angry with me.

In my letter, I never gave them the full details of what happened between Zander, Crystal, and me they don’t know the real reason I left. I can only pray they forgive me.

Zack is still driving, not bothering to look back

Wait something don’t adding up.

If he’s the Beta of this pack, then what happened to Darius?

No one just steps down from that role,

I make a mental note to find out. Something must have happened.

The car finally stops, and I glance out the window, my breath hitching,

We’ve arrived at the pack house,

My body tenses as memories I’d buried flood my mind.

“I can’t go inside,” I say, my voice taut with emotion.

“The Alpha wants to meet you here,” Zack replies flatly.

“I said I won’t go inside. I’m a guest here, and my requests should be respected. Take me to my parents’ house instead, because I refuse to set foot in there,”

Zack exhales sharply but eventually gives me a curt nod and turns the car in the direction of my childhood home

Fifteen minutes later, we arrive.

Nothing has changed.

Everything looks the same-except the atmosphere. It feels dark and heavy, as though a storm is about to break

The car stops at the doorstep, and I get out, Marcus and the others following suit.

I walk to the door and pause, staring at it without ringing the bell.

“Huh… you do realize it’s windy and about to rain, right?” Marcus comments from behind me.

“I know… but… I don’t think this is a good idea. What if she don’t want me here after everything?” I whisper.

He steps up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist.

“She’ll understand once you tell them the truth,” he reassures me.

I nod, though I know it won’t be that simple.

“Alpha Zander will be here any minute,” Zack announces, and my heart stutters.

I thought I was ready for this.

But I’m not.

I inhale deeply before finally pressing the doorbell.

Seconds later, the door swings open, revealing a beautiful black-haired woman I don’t recognize.

Her striking blue-green eyes widen as she gasps, staring at me as if I’m a ghost.

“Serene?” she whispers in awe.

“Yeah, that’s me. And you are…?” I ask cautiously.

“Oh! I’m Kenna Basin from Lighten Pack. Kaden’s mate and wife,” she says, and my eyes widen.

“Wow! That explains why I haven’t seen you before. Is my mom home?”

“Yes, your mom is helping me feed Gem-your four-year-old nephew,” she says with a shy smile, rubbing her bump.

Kaden is a father of two.

I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am. When I left, he hadn’t found his mate yet. I thought he never would.

“Please, come inside,” she says, stepping aside.

I walk in, my heart pounding.

Nothing has changed.

Our childhood photos still hang on the walls.

“Kenna, dear, who was at the doo-” My mother’s voice cuts off.

I turn to see her standing in the hallway, wearing all black, her eyes locked onto mine.

The bowl in her hands slips, shattering against the floor.

“Serene,” she breathes, as if making sure I’m real.

“Mama,” I whisper, my voice cracking.

Tears spill down her face as she rushes forward, engulfing me in a tight embrace,

“Why did you leave?” she sobs into my shoulder.

“I’m sorry, Mama,” I whisper, my own tears finally breaking free.

“You caused so much chaos when you left. So much pain. Your papa…..he was in so much pain! Why did you do this to us? To me? Am I not your mother? Why didn’t you confide in me?” she cries, her voice heavy with hurt.

My heart clenches.

She blame me without even knowing the truth.

“I’m sorry, Mama. I’m sorry I hurt you, Papa, and Kaden. I am sorry I wasn’t here when papa died. I am so sorry mama.” I say, voice trembling.

She exhales shakily while tears still stream down her face.”It’s fine. You’re here, and that’s all that matters. Everything will be okay.”

She cups my face, wiping my tears with the back of her hand before kissing my forehead.

“Come, baby. You must be hungry. I see you’ve already met Kenna-your brother’s wife.”

I nod.

Her gaze shifts to Marcus, who’s been standing quietly behind me.

“And who is this gentleman?” she asks, her voice teasing.

“This is Marcus, Mama. He’s my best friend,” I say quickly.

She gives me a knowing smile.

No, Mama. He has a girlfriend.

I want to say it, but I keep my mouth shut.

“Come, let’s eat,” she invites warmly.

Beta Zack declines, opting to wait in the living room with the other warrior.

As we step into the kitchen, my eyes land on a little boy with blonde hair-hair just like mine.
