Chapter 9
“Mmmh… Mrs. Gun, your food is exquisite. Even better than Serene’s,” Marcus praises, and I roll my eyes at
him.
“Oh, thank you! You are such a gentleman. But no one beats the original,” Mum gushes.
“Why are you two getting along so well? And you Marcus, you are such a kiss ass.” I mutter, and Kenna chuckles beside me.
“So, Serene, I heard you’re a famous designer now. Is it true?” Kenna asks curiously.
“Yes, I am,” I say with a proud smile.
“Not only a designer, but she’s also now England’s most successful model and designer,” Marcus adds proudly.
“I wouldn’t say most successful, but I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for you-my savior,” I praise him.
“You know it was all you,” he replies, and I can feel Mum watching us with a mix of curiosity and concern.
“So, how did you and Kaden meet, Kenna?” I ask, shifting the attention to her.
She blushes instantly, and I know it must have been a romantic encounter.
“He actually saved me from my family,” she sighs, and I can tell it was a hero rescuing the damsel kind of situation.
“Oh, I’m sorry for asking. I didn’t mean to pry,” I say.
“Don’t worry, I’m over it now. I’m stronger and more confident because of him. He made me who I am today,” she says, a loving gleam in her eyes.
“That’s so sweet. So, what are you expecting?” I ask.
“The doctor says it’s a girl, but who knows? It might be a boy,” she shrugs.
“Any names yet?” I ask.
“We were thinking of Glyndon, but Kaden has been having second thoughts about it,” she replies.
“I knew a Glyndon once. She was hit by a bus,” Marcus says dryly.
I elbow him, horrified by the way Kenna’s face pales.
“What? I’m just stating the truth. Don’t name her Glyndon. A name like Aria, Leah, or even Diamond is better,” he shrugs.
Kenna glances at me, looking uncertain.
“I… I think Kaden and I will rethink the name,” she mutters, returning her focus to her meal.
I glare at Marcus, but he ignores me completely.
I sigh and turn back to the table, only to find Mum watching me with a soft smile.

“Ask, Mum,” I say quietly.
“Nothing… I’m just glad you’re finally back,” she says, her voice trembling slightly. “When we lost your dad I thought… I thought I would never hug you again. When you left, at least I still had your father, with Crystal and Kaden both married and mated. Even though you weren’t here, I could still feel you through her. But now… I’m just happy you’re back.”
A sharp pang of guilt pierces my heart.
If only she knew the truth.
I’m about to respond when the front door suddenly bursts open.
His scent hits me instantly.
Even after ten years, it still clouds my senses.
Mint and wood.
Then another scent follows-one I’ll never forget.
My Sister. The girl who shattered my world.
Honey and ashes.
Lastly, my brother.
In a single heartbeat, all three of them are in the kitchen.
Kaden immediately moves to Kenna’s,side, not sparing me a glance. Mama takes Gem from him, though the little boy is fussy, reluctant to leave my arms.
I steel myself and face my sister’s first.
I can read him like a book.
Her eyes burn with anger, betrayal, hurt… and something else. Longing.
She looks different, weak even. She is in all black dress like Zander and the rest of my family.
How dare she?! How dare she feel these emotions!
Then my gaze shifts to Alpha Zander.
Anger and… longing?
“Alpha. Kaden,” I greet, my voice measured. Totally ignoring my sister.
“Warriors, seize her!” Zander commands. 1
“What?” Marcus, Kenna, Mum, and I exclaim at the same time.
Within seconds, two guards grip my arms, restraining me. Marcus tries to intervene, but they shove him back.
“You have the nerve to show your face here after everything you’ve done!” Zander roars, his voice shaking the

“How dare you?” I snap back, my own anger boiling over. “How dare you say that after everything? You have no right to hold me hostage! I am no longer part of this pack. You rejected me! You never cared about me! You were willing to let me die for my sister! And look how that turned out!”
The moment the words leave my lips, I realize I’ve said too much.
Mom, Kenna, and Kaden all gasp in shock.
“What is she talking about, Alpha Zander?” My mother’s voice wobbles.
“Take her to the dungeon and lock her up,” Zander orders, ignoring her question.
“You’ll do no such thing, Alpha!” Mum snaps. “You rejected my daughter! You let her leave! You didn’t care if she lived or died! My husband died thinking his daughter was being selfish!”
“Let her go!” Marcus demands.
“Shut up, human boy,” Zander hisses. “Be glad your head isn’t on a stick.”
“Let her go, Alpha. You can’t imprison her. She has committed no crime! It’s a person’s choice to leave a pack,” Mum argues.
I turn to my Crystal, searching for her reaction.
Her voice matters. After all she is the luna
“You going to stand there and watch him do this?” I glared at her
“She broke the law,” she says coldly. “She killed a warrior and betrayed the pack. That is punishable by death.
“Kaden! Do something about this!” Mum cries, turning to my brother
“Let him do his job, mom,” Kaden sighs.
I stare at him in horror.
“How can you say that? She is our sister! Your father will be mourning in his grave!” Mum yells.
