“What videos?” Stella asked in confusion.

“Seriously? Don’t tell me you’re that naive-you really don’t get what kind of video I’m talking about? I told you to stall the police for a reason. Obviously, they’re the videos of me and that secretary,” Nicolas snapped with

irritation.

“Nicolas, you’re such a scumbag. You did all that, and you even filmed it? Have you completely lost it?” Stella

yelled.

Nicolas said, “I’m not wasting more words on you. I still need to deal with that secretary and make sure she keeps quiet. I’m telling you, do whatever it takes to keep the police distracted, and don’t let them get their hands on that video.

“If you fail, it’s not just me who’s screwed-the whole Weston family is. And you can forget about ever marrying Easton.”

With that, he hung up.

Stella, seething, hurled her phone to the ground in fury.

Her assistant, hearing the crash from outside, rushed in. “Stella, what happened?”

Stella fixed her assistant with a furious, bloodshot glare. “Get out. Don’t come in unless I tell you.”

The assistant, spooked by how she looked, scrambled back out of the room.

Stella took a deep breath to calm herself, then fished out her backup phone from her bag and dialed Minnie. Nicolas that scumbag has screwed things up again…”

Nicolas put two teams to work-one was trying to find out where Emily lived, while the other was keeping tabs on Sophia.

Just as Sophia walked into Crestview Group building, her phone rang. It was her contact from Japoria.

“Hey, honey, what are you up to?” he asked.

Sophia answered as she stepped into the elevator. “Just got back to the office. Any news from your end?”

“Of course. I’ve already sent the video to your inbox. You’re at the office, right? Check it and handle things however you want,” he replied.

Sophia smiled lightly. “Thanks.”

The man gave a teasing laugh. “Come on, we’re too close to say that. If you want to thank me, let my son drop by and see me.”

“Your son? Stop joking,” Sophia retorted.

The guy said, “Don’t play dumb, Sophia. Whose name did you put down as Lucas’s father on his preschool paperwork? I don’t care what you say. He’s my son.”

Sophia pressed her hand to her forehead, exasperated. She thought, ‘He’s helped me out, so I can’t exactly tell him off. Whatever, not worth arguing.”

“Fine, when he’s on break, I’ll have him visit you,” she said.

The guy laughed softly. “And you as well.”

“Alright, alright, I get it. I’m swamped, gotta hang up,” Sophia muttered.

After ending the call, Sophia pulled up her email. As expected, she found the video right there in her inbox.

That man was nothing if not thorough, which always made Sophia feel at ease. The video came in completely anonymous-even the IP address was wiped clean. If the police started poking around, all they’d have to say was that it showed up out of the blue.

Sophia took a deep breath, got herself ready, and opened the video.

Ten minutes later, Sophia felt a heavy weight settle in her chest. After making sure the video was exactly what she needed, she called May.

“May, I’ve got the video. I’m sending it to you now. Let’s get the ball rolling,” Sophia said.

“Got it. I’ll drop off the groceries to Emily first and then get right on it,” May replied. May had just bought some food for Emily and was about to ring the doorbell.

But after ringing for ages, no one came to the door. May’s heart started to pound.

She thought, ‘Emily is not doing stupid things again, is she? No way, that’s not it. Ever since she told us everything she remembered that day, she’s been way more stable.’
