1101 Chapter 101
101.Chapter 101
May pressed the doorbell again and knocked hard, but still, no sign of Emily.
Just then, she heard a loud crash from inside, like something had been knocked over. Panic surged through May.
She yelled, “Emily, are you in there? Open the door! Is everything okay?”
Soon after, Emily’s desperate cry rang out from inside. “May, call the police…”
May reacted immediately, whipping out her phone to make the call. But before she could press dial, the door was wrenched open. A man grabbed her and dragged her inside, smashing her phone to the ground.
“Ah! Who are you?” May shouted.
Dragged into the room, May saw Emily tied to a chair, the place a chaotic mess-clearly trashed from Emily’s struggles to break free.
Two men were there. One of them finished taping Emily’s mouth shut and then turned to approach May with a threatening look.
“Wanna call the police? Not gonna happen,” the man sneered.
May tried to steady her voice, forcing herself to sound braver than she felt. “Who are you? Are you working for Nicolas?”
The man’s face darkened. “You’ve known too much.”
After hanging up with May, Sophia felt a gnawing uneasiness she couldn’t shake. She rushed to finish up her tasks, and in less than fifteen minutes, she was reaching for her phone again, stepping out of her office without a second thought.
She called May, but oddly enough, there was no answer.
She thought, ‘May has just said she’d run an errand and head back to the firm, so she should be driving right now. But May always picks up with Bluetooth when she’s behind the wheel. It’s totally unlike her not to answer.’
Then Sophia tried Emily, but there was still no response.
Suddenly, a heavy sense of dread gripped Sophia. She jumped into her car, connected the Bluetooth, and kept calling May while heading straight for the law firm, her nerves tight with worry.
Meanwhile, May had ended up being tied to a chair as well, but she’d acted fast. When those men seized her, she’d discreetly stashed her smartwatch out of sight.
Now, with their attention elsewhere, she used muscle memory to dial her emergency contact-Sophia.
May knew Sophia usually picked up immediately, but she worried her smartwatch might be set to speaker mode. If those guys overheard, they’d realize something was up.
She silently counted the seconds, and as soon as Sophia picked up, both of them started talking at the exact same time.
May said, “Did Nicolas send you here to intimidate Emily, so she won’t tell the truth in court?”
The man next to her fixed her with a cold, menacing glare. “If you want to stay alive, stay out of this.”
Sophia had just stepped out of her car and was walking up to the front doors of Brightway Law Firm when she got the call from May.
She picked up right away, starting to call out for May, but was instantly cut off by May’s tense, raised voice coming through the line-she sounded like she was in the middle of a heated argument with someone. Seconds later, a man’s voice sounded.
Sophia suddenly stopped in her tracks, clamping her hand over her phone so no sound could get through.
She thought, ‘May and Emily are in trouble!’

Sophia was already connecting the dots-she knew something bad was happening. Heart racing, she ended
the call and frantically reached for Julian’s number, but then she spun around and slammed straight into someone standing behind her.
“Ms. Roth, watch out,” the person cautioned.
“Mr. Howard?” Sophia gasped.
Ryan just nodded, smiling.
Sophia clutched his arm anxiously and said, “Mr. Howard, May’s in trouble.”
