123 Chapter 123
123.Chapter 123
For some reason, worry crept up on her. She could still feel the heat radiating off Easton from earlier-he had looked seriously unwell.
She thought, ‘Does he have some secret illness? Is that why he refuses to let anyone take him to the hospital? Sophia instinctively started to move toward the stairs, but then caught herself, forcing those worried thoughts back down.
She thought, ‘He already has his secretary and his girlfriend with him. Why should I even bother worrying? Frank noticed Sophia spacing out and leaned over, saying softly, “Sophia, what’s wrong?”
Sophia glanced up at Frank, smiled faintly, and shook her head. “Nothing. I was just thinking about work.” Frank’s gaze was full of fondness. “I never saw you put this much effort back when we were in school.”
She just smiled without saying a word.
As the Twilight Charity Gala neared its end, Sophia noticed Gordon mingling as usual, yet Easton and Stella were nowhere in sight.
Frank took off his jacket and wrapped it around Sophia’s shoulders with care. “Sophia, time to go. It’s getting late.”
Sophia glanced toward the second floor, nodded, and followed behind Frank as they left.
Sophia thought to herself, ‘Sophia, you’re such an idiot. You almost believed his lies. He said nothing’s going on between him and Stella, and now what? They’re probably kissing upstairs.’
She scolded herself while thinking she needed a shower as soon as she got home.
When Easton came to, the first thing he saw was the mess he had left behind-broken stuff scattered all over the private room from when his headache acted up.
“Easton, I’m glad you’re fine,” Stella said softly from beside him.
Easton’s face instantly darkened, his voice cold and tinged with irritation. “What are you doing here?”
Stella explained, “Gordon called me and said you weren’t feeling well, so I came to check on you. Luckily, I always bring my acupuncture tools with me to events like this. Honestly, if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have known what to do for you tonight.”
Easton glared at Gordon.
Gordon lowered his head. “Sorry, Mr. Foster, but it broke my heart to see you suffering like that.”
Easton got up, grabbed his suit jacket, and slipped it on. He glanced at his watch, only to find it was already eleven at night. The party downstairs had surely ended.
As he buttoned up his jacket, he said coolly, “Thanks for your help tonight. It’s late. I’ll have Gordon drive you home.”
Stella stood behind him, her voice tinged with grievance. “Easton, is it just because Sophia’s back that you’re trying so hard to keep a distance from me?
“Your headaches have worsened over the past six months, yet you never let me help. Why?”
Easton stopped, his expression indifferent. “Stella, you’re overthinking it. I know exactly what’s going on with me, and there’s no need for you to worry.
“Yeah, we might have been close before, but I hope you know your place. We’re never going to be lovers. And what happens between Sophia and me is none of your concern.”
Watching Easton walk away, his whole vibe so distant and cold, Stella felt a deep unease settle in her chest. She begged, “Easton, please, just let me keep helping you. I can’t stand seeing you suffer, and David wouldn’t

want to see that either.”
Easton’s brow twitched slightly as he turned his head, his eyes betraying no emotion.
Noticing what looked like a hint of hesitation from Easton, Stella quickly added, “If you’re worried Sophia might misunderstand, I can explain everything to her.”
Easton turned and walked away, saying indifferently, “That won’t be necessary. You don’t have to do anything.”
