129 Chapter 129
129.Chapter 129
Annie, sitting next to Sophia, noticed her silence and the awkward vibe. She quickly changed the subject. She said, “Easton, the wedding’s coming up next week, and my parents are arriving tomorrow.
“I have a conference I can’t miss-do you think you could arrange to have someone pick them up?”
Easton nodded and said, “It’s no problem. I’ll make time to go to the airport and pick them up tomorrow.”
After dinner, Julian said he’d drive Annie home. As they were leaving the hotel, he turned around and said, ” Sophia, you and May both had drinks tonight, so I called a driver for you. He might be a little late getting here.”
Sophia smiled and said, “Julian, you go ahead and take Annie home. May and I will be fine-we can handle it, so don’t worry.”
Julian nodded, took Annie’s hand, and the two of them headed out.
May had a bit too much to drink tonight-she could barely stand straight.
Sophia held her up at the hotel entrance, but no matter how long they waited, the designated driver never showed.
Sophia grabbed her phone and dialed the number Julian had sent earlier. She said, “Hi, I’m the owner of the car you’re supposed to pick up. Are you here yet?”
The driver replied, “I am sorry, Ms. Roth. I ran into some trouble along the way-my scooter broke down halfway, so I won’t be able to make it. Could you please cancel the order and try requesting another driver?”
Then, without waiting for a response, he just hung up.
May was teetering, barely able to stay upright.
Sophia tried ordering another driver.
Just then, Ryan stepped out of his car and offered, “Let me just take her home-it’s late, and there’s no way you can wrangle her by yourself.”
Sophia glanced at the tipsy May beside her and thought, ‘Ryan’s a decent guy-nothing to worry about. Better to let him take her home than have her freeze out here with me.’
So she nodded and said, “Alright, thanks, Mr. Howard.”
“Why don’t you come with us? I’ll give you a ride home too,” Ryan offered.
Sophia shook her head and said, “No, my car’s still here. I’ll just wait for a driver. You guys go ahead.”
Sophia helped May into Ryan’s car, then pulled out her phone to order another driver. But because they were out here in the suburbs, nobody was accepting the request-even after several minutes, still no luck.
Just as she was stressing about how to get her car home, Easton’s deep, silky voice came from right beside
her.
“Let me give you a ride home,” Easton offered.
Sophia had no clue when he’d snuck up next to her. She kept her eyes down, definitely not in the mood to chat.
Easton added, “You seriously gonna stand out here until you sober up and then drive yourself home?”
Sophia replied, a bit stubborn, “None of your business.”
Right then, a taxi pulled up ahead.
Sophia’s eyes lit up. She thought, ‘I’ll just get a driver to pick up my car tomorrow-what matters now is getting home. No way am I staying out here alone with Easton.
Just as Sophia stepped forward, a middle-aged woman-supporting her drunken husband-reached the taxi
door at the same time.
The woman asked politely, “Miss, could you please let us have this cab? My husband’s drunk and we don’t have a car.”

Then she glanced at Easton and said, “Hey, handsome, fighting with your wife? Go on, give her some comfort.
If she’s still mad, just hug her or steal a kiss-she’ll get over it soon enough.
“Cabs are impossible to get around here, so would you mind letting us have this one instead?”
Sophia was speechless. She grumbled inwardly, “What nonsense is this woman talking about? Her
imagination is running wild’
Easton stepped up and tugged Sophia a little closer to him. He then asked, ‘Sophia, want me to comfort you??
The mere idea gave Sophia instant goosebumps-she seriously couldn’t even begin to picture that
She thought, ‘Easton, comforting me? Yeah, not happening. Honestly, even if there wasn’t a single soul left on earth, proud and icy Easton would never lower himself to cheer anyone up.”
