The maid was in the bedroom, reading with David. When David heard his mom come home, he ran out, all excited. But as soon as he saw the stormy look on Stella’s face, he stopped dead in his tracks.

Stella’s expression turned cold as she saw David. She barked, “Get lost. Go back to your room.”

David rushed back to his room and locked the door behind him.

Stella steadied herself against the wall as she headed to her room, feeling seriously on edge.

Her phone was blowing up with news about the Foster Group and Crestview Group partnership, and even at dinner, all the execs couldn’t stop talking about it.

In the bathroom, Stella washed her face, and the more she thought about it, the angrier she got. ‘If Irene hadn’t interfered, Easton wouldn’t have changed how he treated Sophia, she thought.

Soon, she dialed Minnie.

“Are you sure you went through with it?” Minnie asked.

Minnie knew what Stella was planning, but she hadn’t expected her to use David this time.

It wasn’t that Minnie cared about the kid; she just knew David was the only leverage Stella had over Easton.’ Isn’t she jumping the gun?’ Minnie thought.

“Yeah, just get ready and wait for my call,” Stella said.

After hanging up, Stella headed to David’s room, opened the door, and told the maid she could go home; she’d take care of David herself tonight.

Seeing his mom’s mood ease up, David finally dared to approach her and whispered, “Mommy.”

Stella crouched down and asked gently, “Are you scared of me, David?”

David nodded, then shook his head.

Stella gave him a weird smile. “Want to go downstairs and get some ice cream with me?”

David looked up, his eyes full of surprise. “Really? I can have some?”

Stella took his hand and led him out of the room. “Of course.”

They headed for the stairs, and with just a few steps to go, Stella suddenly stopped. Without even thinking. she gave David a little push from behind.

“Ah,” David cried out.

Stella rushed down, pretending to be frantic. “David, what happened?”

David wailed, “Mommy, my foot hurts.”

Stella reached out and gave his leg a hard squeeze. “Is it hurting here?”

David cried even louder. “Mommy, stop. It hurts.”

Stella had secretly learned some traditional medicine just to get closer to Easton, so with a quick check, she could tell if a bone was broken or just dislocated.

‘Pretty sure his bones have broken now, Stella thought.

the stairs at home. He’s crying and saying his leg hurts. I think he might have broken it.”
