Replacement Bride Left With His Baby (Sophia and Easton) novel Chapter 146

146 Chapter 146

146.Chapter 146

Stella’s guess was spot on. Easton had indeed taken David to the same hospital where Irene was staying for

treatment.

He held David in his arms, patiently soothing him.

When she saw how anxious Easton was about David, Stella’s face was full of concern and worry, but inside, she was feeling a smug sense of satisfaction.

‘Just as I thought, this kid is really useful, Stella thought to herself.

She secretly sent a message to Minnie, telling her to start making preparations.

Easton had already gotten Stella and David settled in a hospital room. “Stella, David’s asleep now.

“The doctor said he fractured his right foot and needs to stay here for treatment for a while. I’ll arrange for a caregiver to look after him, so don’t worry.”

Stella’s face was streaked with tears as she sat by David’s side, clutching his hand, looking pitiful and wronged.

“Okay, I understand. Sorry for troubling you tonight,” she said softly.

Easton nodded, then glanced at his watch. “It’s getting late. I’ll head out now. If you need anything, just reach out to Gordon; he’ll handle it for you.”

Stella stood up and walked over to him. “How’s Irene doing? Is it all right if I visit her?”

Easton kept his tone neutral. “Just focus on taking care of David for now. Grandma’s condition is stable, but she likes her peace and isn’t comfortable with unfamiliar faces.”

Stella’s expression froze for a split second, but she quickly recovered, looking poised and polite. “Alright, I understand.”

Once Easton left, Stella’s face clouded over, her hands curling into tight fists.

‘Just have to grit my teeth a bit longer,’ she thought. ‘When this is all done, I’ll make sure to close the gap between me and Easton. Whatever it takes.

After returning from her business trip to Duskspire, Sophia was sitting at her desk when Emily knocked and walked in. “Sophia, my friend at the nursing home, got some info. Not sure if it’s useful, though.”

Sophia set down her pen and leaned back in her chair. “Go ahead, tell me.”

“My friend’s been working at the nursing home lately and got to know the two girls at the front desk. They told her that after Irene’s accident, three people suddenly quit,” Emily said.

“Which three?” Sophia asked.

Emily pulled out a folder. “These are the resignation letters from those three, plus the paperwork they handed in when they first got hired.”

Sophia took the folder and started flipping through the papers. The first two were both older, close to retirement age, so it made sense for them to quit.

But when she got to the last one, a woman named Chloe, Sophia felt a sudden sense of familiarity.

She paused, trying to remember. Then it hit her; she’d seen Chloe twice at the nursing home when she visited Irene. The first time, Chloe had accidentally bumped into her while pushing a cart.

The second time was the night Irene had a high fever. As Sophia was following the doctor back to the office, she spotted Chloe lurking in the corner of the ward, clearly eavesdropping on their conversation.

Just thinking about her made Sophia’s instincts scream; Chloe was definitely suspicious.

“Emily, have your friend at the nursing home find out as much as possible about Chloe.

“Whether it’s work-related or just little things from her daily life. As soon as she hears anything, let me know right away,” Sophia said.

“Got it,” Emily replied.

“And set up a private investigator to look into this woman. She might be directly connected to Irene’s accident,” Sophia added.

Emily nodded and quickly went out to make the arrangements.

After returning from Duskspire, Sophia had a mountain of work to catch up on. By the time she finally finished, it was already four in the afternoon.

Seeing that it was still early, she decided to swing by the hospital to check on Irene.
