147.Chapter 147
When she got to the ward, she noticed the bodyguard Easton had assigned wasn’t on duty, and the room was empty, neither Irene nor Grace was there.
Sophia tried calling Grace, but nobody picked up.
But then she figured Irene was probably out for some medical tests, and since the bodyguard usually tags along, there shouldn’t be any issues. Grace was probably just tied up and missed the call.
Sophia stepped into the hospital room and settled onto the couch.
But after waiting for half an hour, Sophia was getting anxious. She quickly made her way to the nurse’s station to ask about Irene.
“Hi, Ms. Roth. The doctor scheduled Mrs. Irene Foster for an MRI today, and she’s got a bunch of tests lined up, so it’s going to take a while, the nurse said.
Sophia nodded. “Alright, could you let me know which floor Irene and her caregiver are on? I’ll go up and find them.”
The nurse replied, “They’re on the top floor, in the diagnostics department.”
Sophia took the elevator up, and when she arrived at the diagnostics department, she saw Stella there too, cradling David in her arms.
Sophia’s gaze landed on David, and she noticed his leg was all wrapped up in a cast.
Stella’s heart skipped a beat the moment she spotted Sophia.
‘Why is she showing up right now? Panic surged through her. Minnie’s guy was already here, and if her timing was right, he’d be making his move any minute now.
‘If Sophia finds out anything, everything I’ve worked for will go up in smoke, Stella thought, her mind racing.
Stella quickly handed David off to the maid and stepped in front of Sophia, hoping to keep her from heading to the MRI department.
“Sophia, what are you doing here?” Stella blurted out, her voice tense as she tried to block Sophia’s way.
Sophia found her question strange, didn’t bother responding, and simply walked right past Stella toward the MRI department.
Stella hustled after her, refusing to let it go. “Sophia, you and Easton are done.
“Quit trying to get attention from Irene all the time. You really think just because she backs you up, Easton’s gonna suddenly treat you special?”
Sophia stopped in her tracks. “Stella, watch your mouth, or you will regret it. Stop yapping in my face all day.”
Stella’s face turned gloomy with rage.
Sophia added, “Seriously, what does Easton even see in you? You’re totally brainless.”
With that, Sophia just ignored her and walked off.
Seeing Sophia about to reach the MRI department, Stella frantically dialed the guy Minnie had arranged, her voice urgent as she told him, “Abort the plan and get out of there now.”
‘If Sophia’s crew catches him and he rats me out, I’m totally screwed; Stella thought, anxiety gnawing at her.
Just as Sophia reached the door, she saw the bodyguard, Grace, and another staff member all standing outside.
“Why are you all out here? Wasn’t one person supposed to be allowed in to stay with her?” Sophia asked, her question snapping the bodyguard out of his daze.
Grace said, “I tried to go in with Irene, but then a doctor showed up and told me I couldn’t.”
Sophia’s heart lurched. ‘Everyone’s stuck outside, and Irene’s lying in there unconscious. What if something

goes wrong? she worried.
The bodyguards were just about to open the door when suddenly, a doctor in a white coat burst out from inside, looking panicked and trying to make a quick escape.
Sophia immediately knew something was wrong. She called out, “Don’t let him leave. Grace, get in there and check on Irene now.”
As soon as Sophia shouted, the guy freaked out and made a run for it, darting right past them. The bodyguards rushed after him without hesitation.
He dashed straight over to Stella and her group, yanking David out of the caregiver’s arms. “Stay back. One more step and I’ll end Easton’s kid right here and now,” he barked, panic written all over his face.
Stella put on a terrified act, her face going ghostly pale as she stammered, “Please, don’t hurt my baby
