148 Chapter 148
148.Chapter 148
Grace wheeled Irene out, who was still asleep in her wheelchair. “Thank goodness Irene’s okay.”
Sophia glanced at Grace and Irene, nodded, and joined Grace in pushing Irene to the side.
Just then, Easton arrived at the hospital. David was bawling his eyes out, and you could hear him all over the testing area.
When Stella saw Easton, she clung to his side, sobbing. “Do something, Easton. David’s so scared. He’s crying his eyes out.”
Easton asked Gordon to get her somewhere safe, then walked over to the bodyguards.
The bodyguard quickly filled him in on what had just happened.
Easton’s face was grim. “Who are you? Who sent you? Who ordered you to hurt Irene?”
The man’s face twisted with hatred. “No one sent me. I just hate you rich people.”
As he spoke, he pointed the syringe threateningly at David’s neck.
“No, please, don’t hurt David,” Stella screamed from nearby.
Easton’s eyes darkened. “What do you want? I’ll give you anything, just don’t hurt David.”
The man sneered, “Don’t think you can fool me. I’ll never trust you rich and powerful types again.”
Everyone was frozen in a tense standoff. Sophia couldn’t shake the feeling that Irene wasn’t safe here, especially since she had no clue if the guy had backup lurking around.
Sophia leaned in and reminded Grace, “Whatever happens, make sure you get Irene out of here safe, okay?”
The man dragged David along, edging closer to the window. Easton and the bodyguards were on high alert; everyone’s nerves stretched tight.
This was the top floor. Just one slip, and it’d be all over for David.
Sophia’s heart pounded in her chest. The guy was barely 15 feet away from them.
Everyone was holding their breath when, suddenly, a panicked nurse burst out of the MRI room, startling
everyone.
As soon as she appeared, Easton made his move, rushing forward to try and grab David.
But the guy reacted instantly; he dragged David straight to the window.
“Take one more step and I’ll throw him out,” the man shouted.
Easton stopped the bodyguards with a quick gesture, and all three of them froze on the spot.
The man caught sight of Irene in the wheelchair and subconsciously shot a look at Stella.
But Stella’s face gave nothing away.
He dragged David closer to the window with one hand, the syringe in his other hand looking like it was about to jab right into David’s neck.
Everyone was even more afraid to make a move.
The man realized things were getting out of hand, and he was stuck with no way out. Still, he was ready to risk it all, just waiting for the right moment to make a break for the emergency exit.
He was less than 10 feet away from it.
He faked a move to push David out the window, then made a quick dash out of sight.
But he pushed too hard, and David ended up right at the edge of the window. Luckily, he managed to grab onto the iron bars just in time, barely avoiding a fall.
Sophia was a mom herself, so in a situation like this, she couldn’t help but feel anxious and on edge.
Even though she absolutely hated Stella, the kid was innocent in all this.

148 Chapter 148
Instinctively, she followed Easton in a rush, her nerves taut as she ran to the window.
The bodyguards saw the guy trying to make a run for it and rushed forward to grab him, but he realized there was no way out.
Still clutching the syringe, he turned his attention to Irene, who was close by.
Grace didn’t have time to wheel Irene away before the man grabbed her. He shoved Grace aside and pointed the syringe at Irene. “Don’t come any closer.”
After Easton pulled David to safety, he saw the man had grabbed Irene and was holding her hostage.
Stella didn’t rush to check on David.
