149 Chapter 149
149.Chapter 149
Instead, just as Easton was about to head toward Irene, she quickly ran over to the man, pretending to shove his hand away from the wheelchair, then gave him a hint to use her as the hostage instead.
The man didn’t miss a beat; he grabbed Stella by the neck in an instant.
Easton stepped forward, his voice cold and sharp. “Let her go right now, and maybe you’ll get out of here in one piece. But if you don’t, don’t even think about escaping.”
The guy didn’t even glance at him, just yanked Stella along, heading straight for the emergency exit.
Stella understood exactly what he was up to and played along, cooperating with his plan.
Once they reached the emergency exit, Stella elbowed him in the back and whispered, “Run.”
The man got the message, shoved Stella aside, and bolted down the emergency stairs.
The two bodyguards immediately took off after him.
Once the man was gone, Stella finally breathed a sigh of relief. She hurried over to Sophia, putting on a show of panic, and quickly pulled David into her arms.
“Don’t be scared, David. I’m here,” Stella cooed, trying to soothe him.
David was still trembling and sniffling, clearly shaken. The maid came over quickly to help comfort him.
Easton told the doctors and nurses to get Irene back to her room for a thorough check-up. Sophia walked over to Grace and helped steady her.
“Grace, did you get hurt when he pushed you?” Sophia asked, her voice full of concern.
Grace shook her head. “I’m fine. Let’s go check on Irene.”
Sophia nodded.
As they were leaving, Sophia glanced back at that sweet family of three moment.
She’d never seen Easton be so patient with a kid before. Her feelings were a mess; she never realized he could be so gentle with children.
Or maybe, he only cared about the child he had with Stella.
As Sophia helped Grace out, Easton finally realized Sophia had been there the whole time. ‘Did she get hurt just now?’ he wondered, a flicker of concern crossing his mind.
Easton told Gordon to make sure Stella and David were settled in and to have the doctors give David a thorough check-up.
As Easton was about to leave, Stella’s voice trembled, almost breaking. “Easton, can you come back to the room with us for a while? David only stops crying when you’re around. Today really scared him.”
Easton looked at David, still sobbing in the maid’s arms, and he couldn’t help but feel his heart melt.
He nodded, scooped David up from the maid, and carried him back to the room with Stella.
After Gordon made sure they were okay and settled in, he met up with the two bodyguards and called the police.
The guy never made it out of the hospital in the end.
Stella heard about it almost immediately. She shot Minnie a secret message, asking her to take care of the aftermath.
After Easton made sure David was resting, he went back to Irene’s room, only to find that Sophia was already gone.
“Did Sophia leave?” Easton asked.
Grace nodded. “Yeah, the police came by and asked a few questions. Sophia saw Irene was fine, asked me to keep an eye on her, and then she left.”

Easton pulled out his phone, about to call Sophia, but before he could dial, Gordon showed up at the door.
Easton put his phone away. “Did you catch that guy?”
Gordon looked grim, hesitating as if he had something more to say, but stopped himself.
“Is there more I should know?” Easton asked, picking up on Gordon’s mood.
Gordon nodded. “On the way to the detention center, he suddenly tried to make a break for it by jumping out
the back door. He barely made it a few steps before a big truck slammed into him.
“They rushed him back to the hospital, but honestly, he’s in pretty bad shape.”
