159 Chapter 159
159.Chapter 159
Sophia snorted, “May, we’ve known each other for half our lives. When have you ever actually given me a birthday present?
“Every year, it’s either Forrest’s wine stash or you drag me out for drinks, and then you always say the same thing when you’re tipsy.
“You might not be sick of it, but I sure am. The only difference this year is you’re saying it before you’ve even had a drop.”
May stuck out her tongue, grinning sheepishly. “Seriously, Ms. Roth, you’ve got everything. I honestly have no clue what I could possibly get you.”
Sophia smiled softly, “Alright, I get it. Just make sure you show up at the Roth residence right after work
tomorrow.
“Uncle Edward said he hasn’t seen you in ages, and the butler’s already prepping all your favorite dishes.” They chatted for a bit longer before hanging up.
Sophia went back into Lucas’s room and saw him totally absorbed in his drawing. She softly stroked his hair.
Sophia smiled and asked, “Lucas, your fourth birthday is coming up soon. Is there anything you want Mommy to get you? Or maybe a birthday wish you want me to help make come true?”
Sophia and Lucas both had birthdays at the end of the year, just half a month apart.
Back when she was in Japoria, aside from having dinner and drinks with May, Sophia would always save the birthday cake to share with Lucas on his birthday.
Lucas put down his paintbrush and wrapped his arms around Sophia’s neck. “Mommy, can you find me a daddy?”
Sophia was stunned. ‘This birthday wish is even harder than climbing to the moon. What am I supposed to do?’ she thought.
Lucas pouted, then looked up at Sophia with his innocent eyes. “I knew this birthday wish was a bit tough, but that’s okay. If I can’t have it this year, I’ll just wait until next year, okay, Mommy?”
Sophia couldn’t help but laugh. “Lucas, you’ve never asked me about your dad before. Why are you suddenly so eager to find one?”
Lucas looked down. “I didn’t ask because I was afraid.”
“Afraid of what?” Sophia asked, confused.
“Afraid you’d tell me my dad is gone. That I don’t have a dad at all,” Lucas said softly.
Sophia didn’t know what to say.
She’d considered telling him something like that before, but since he never brought it up, she never had the chance.
Sophia cleared her throat, hesitating. “Every kid has a mom and a dad, but as for your dad?” she trailed off, unsure how to continue.
Lucas looked up at her, eyes shining with hope. “Mommy, you don’t have to tell me right now. I’m waiting for you to surprise me.
“Maybe when I’m a bit older, you’ll make my birthday wish come true,” he said, trying to sound grown-up.
Sophia smiled, pulling him into a hug and kissing his forehead. She never meant to hide the truth from him.
She just wanted to wait until he was old enough to understand. But seeing how much Lucas hoped for a dad, she realized she hadn’t expected him to care so much about it.
December in Jenston was brutally cold, and winter had stripped the trees bare, leaving them looking totally naked.

159 Chapter 159
Sophia, May, and Lucas arrived at the Roth residence, and Edward was already out in the garden waiting for
the three of them.
Julian had to take Annie to the airport, so he didn’t make it back until just before dinner.
May’s wine was a hit, as always. The food wasn’t even all on the table yet, and the four of them had already. gone through half the wine.
Just then, the butler came in with a beautifully wrapped gift. “Ms. Roth, Mr. Lowell is outside. He asked me to bring this in for you.”
Sophia looked at the gift box in the butler’s hands, puzzled. “Mr. Lowell?”
The butler nodded and set the gift down in front of Sophia. “He said his name is Gordon.”
‘Why would Easton’s secretary be sending me a gift?’ Sophia wondered, a little confused.
Sophia set her wine glass down, thought for a moment, and then unwrapped the gift. Inside was a vintage jewelry box. She opened it and looked inside.
It was the ruby bracelet that the mysterious buyer had won at the auction.
