‘If the rumor spreads that Stella turned down the bracelet and I just handed it off to Sophia, I’d really be done for,’ Easton grumbled to himself.

‘If Sophia were that easy to win over, I wouldn’t be stuck here. I’d already be having dinner at the Roth residence, he thought.

Easton finished his drink, grabbed his coat, and walked out of the room.

“Mr. Howard, is Easton pissed? He looks like he wants nothing to do with us,” Charles asked.

Ryan shrugged. “He probably thinks your idea was pretty stupid.”

Charles was stunned for a moment.

After handing the gift back to Gordon, Sophia strolled back inside without missing a beat.

Edward and Julian saw that her expression gave nothing away, so they decided to let it go and didn’t ask any more questions.

After dinner, May and Sophia headed out with Lucas.

May sat in the passenger seat, kept glancing over, clearly wanting to say something, but stopping herself.

Sophia held Lucas, staring out the window in silence.

May finally broke the silence. “Any thoughts, Sophia?”

Sophia turned to her. “Nothing, really.”

“Easton gave you such a pricey bracelet on your birthday. If we were just speculating before, now he’s basically shouting his feelings for you,” May said, unable to hide her amusement.

Sophia pressed her lips together. It was not that she didn’t want to answer. She honestly had no idea what to say.

Stella had just wrapped up her news segment and was back in her office. She checked her phone and saw Minnie had called her several times.

As she changed out of her work clothes, she called Minnie back.

“Minnie, what’s up?” Stella asked.

“Stella, my boyfriend told me at dinner tonight that Mr. Foster really did win that ruby bracelet at the auction,” Minnie said.

Stella smirked, her lips curving into a faint smile.

Minnie continued, “But when he got off work today, he heard Mr. Foster telling Gordon to send the bracelet over to the Roth residence.”

The moment Stella heard that, she nearly twisted her ankle in her new heels.

“Ah,” Stella yelped.

“Stella, are you okay?” Minnie asked after hearing her yelp.

Stella steadied herself against the desk and sat down, her voice urgent. “What? He actually had Gordon deliver it to the Roth residence?”

“Yeah, he was standing right next to Gordon and heard Mr. Foster tell him himself,” Minnie replied.

Stella took a breath to calm down. ‘Just because it was sent to the Roth residence doesn’t mean it’s for Sophia. Could it be for his cousin Annie instead?’ she wondered.

But that ruby bracelet’s story was all over the place; everyone knew about it. There was no way he’d give it to

Annie.

“Stella, do you think Mr. Foster is actually chasing after Sophia?” Minnie asked, her voice cautious.

Stella gripped her phone tightly. “I don’t know.”

Minnie could tell Stella was clearly annoyed, so she said a few comforting words before hanging up.

Stella was fuming. She didn’t need Minnie to say it out loud; she could see for herself that Easton was definitely trying to win over Sophia.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she got.

She wondered, ‘Sophia, why is your life always so perfect? You had loving parents from the start, and even after they passed, everyone still treats you like you’re special.

‘And now, even Easton’s fallen for you. But what about me? I’ve spent all these years. What if, in the end, I lose everything? No, that’s impossible.

‘I still have David. Yeah, and my child, too. Easton wouldn’t just walk away from me and our kid. He couldn’t be that cruel.’

Stella, her mind elsewhere, headed down to the TV station parking lot to grab her car. She hadn’t even made it to her spot when a man suddenly cut her off, blocking her way.

When Stella finally got a good look at the man’s face, she froze in shock. “You?” she gasped, her voice trembling with fear.
