Benjamin glared at Stella, his eyes cold and sharp. “Well, Stella, you come back to Jenston and suddenly you’ re the famous news anchor everyone talks about. Guess you landed yourself a powerful backer.”

He grabbed her chin roughly. “I wonder if your new backer knows you’re a vicious bitch.

“You destroyed my family and thought you could just walk away, huh? No way. If I hadn’t come to Jenston, I would have never known you’d been hiding out here all along.”

Stella’s eyes were wide with terror; she knew exactly how enraged Benjamin was. “Benjamin, whatever happened between us is all over. And don’t forget, you share the blame for your wife’s suicide.

“You pursued me. Even if you kill me now to get your revenge, do you really think you’ll live in peace?”

Benjamin sneered. “Stella, you’re very good at twisting your mistake into someone else’s fault.”

Benjamin’s face twisted with pain and guilt. “I know I’m guilty, and nothing is gonna change that. The biggest mistake of my life was meeting you and breaking my wife’s heart. Did you know she was three months pregnant when she killed herself?”

Stella was afraid, unsure what Benjamin might do next. She was about to struggle free when, to her surprise, Benjamin let go.

He said, “Stella, I’m not dumb enough to ruin my own future just to kill you. You’ll get what you deserve.”

Once Benjamin left, Stella nearly collapsed, her legs giving out as she leaned heavily against the car.

Trembling, she grabbed her phone and called Minnie, saying in an urgent tone, “Minnie, I need you to track someone down. Find out where he’s been and what he’s doing. I want it all.”

After hanging up, Stella steadied herself and stumbled over to her own car, still scared out of her mind.

She thought, ‘Is Benjamin really here for revenge? If he exposes my past in Yorkland to the press, what will Easton think of me?’

For all these years, Easton had always thought of her as gentle and kind, so she couldn’t let her reputation shatter, not when everything was hanging by a thread.

She knew she had to figure out a way to get Benjamin out of Jenston before he caused any more trouble.

Stella held it together as best she could, driving back to her apartment. She was just reaching for the door handle when her phone buzzed. It was Minnie calling.

“Stella, I found Benjamin’s info,” Minnie said.

Emily knocked and walked in with a stack of files. “Ms. Roth, it’s almost time. We need to head to the Maritime Authority soon.

“I’ve revised the third-quarter project plan just like you asked; this is the final version we’re gonna show them at the meeting.”

Sophia took off her glasses and rubbed her forehead. “Alright. And here’s the first-phase design for the southern development project. I just finished updating it.

“Before we head out, scan it and send it to Gordon at the Foster Group. Once they give us the green light, we’ll

move forward.”

Emily nodded, taking the design from Sophia. She gave her a worried look. “Sophia, are you having trouble sleeping? Those dark circles are pretty obvious, and you look totally exhausted.
