Sophia couldn’t help but remember when Nicolas kidnapped her.

Easton’s presence was so intense, and Sophia instinctively stepped back. “If you’re here to see Mr. Howard, you’ve got the wrong place. He lives in a building across the street.”

Sophia figured he must be here for Ryan, so she just pointed out which building Ryan lived in.

Easton’s eyes fixed on her. He thought, ‘When did she get so clueless? Does she really think I came all the way here for someone else?’

He took a step closer, his voice low and intense. “Why won’t you accept the bracelet?”

Sophia hadn’t expected him to be so direct. She looked at him, and he seemed dead serious.

She said, “That bracelet is way too expensive. I really can’t accept it. You should give it to someone who truly deserves it, Mr. Foster.”

As soon as the words left Sophia’s mouth, Easton’s face darkened.

“If that’s all, I’ll leave,” Sophia added, not bothering to hide her urge to leave.

Easton watched as Sophia hurried away, frustration twisting in his chest. He wanted to call out to her, but she was already gone.

Once Sophia got home, the tension she’d been feeling finally started to fade away.

Back in the day, she’d gone out of her way just to get a word in with him, and even catching a glimpse of him in class was like winning the lottery. Now, he kept popping up out of nowhere.

Sophia couldn’t help but feel confused. Maybe it was because she’d been so into him when she was younger, and then they’d had that messy marriage. Even trying to be just friends felt impossible.

Other than work, Sophia really didn’t want to talk to him.

She told herself that Easton just couldn’t stand her, and no matter what she did, it was like there was some kind of curse keeping them apart.

And Sophia kept telling herself not to keep humiliating herself for the same man.

She couldn’t take that bracelet, and she didn’t want anything to do with it.

Stella found out that Benjamin was meeting someone for dinner at the Summit Hotel tonight, so she got there early and waited in the lobby.

She even had Minnie’s boyfriend arrange for Easton’s dinner with his guest to be moved to the Summit Hotel

at the last minute.

She timed it just right. When Benjamin showed up in the Summit Hotel lobby, she pretended to run into him by accident, acting all startled and trying to avoid him like she was scared.

However, Benjamin wasn’t about to let her get away that easily.

He marched over and grabbed Stella by the wrist. “Stella, you think you can just walk away, huh? No way.”

Stella faked a panic. “Let go of me, Benjamin. People are watching.”

She didn’t raise her voice, but it was loud enough for everyone in the lobby to catch.

Benjamin’s jaw tightened. He yanked her closer, his voice cold as he leaned in and hissed in her ear.

He said, “Stella, you think you can mess with me, huh? I swear, I’ll spill everything about you being the mistress in Yorkland right here, for everyone to hear.”

Stella glanced at the entrance just as a man stepped out of a car and started heading inside. Then she flashed a sly grin.

She said, “Yes, Benjamin, your wife died because of me. What are you gonna do about it?”

Benjamin snapped at her words. He raised his hand, about to strike her.

However, before he could actually hit her, someone grabbed his arm from behind. “Mr. Locke, picking on a woman in public is a bit inappropriate, isn’t it?”

Stella yanked herself free from Benjamin’s grip and darted straight to Easton, clinging to him.
