Sophia had just woken up and was still groggy, so it didn’t sink in right away what Benjamin was saying. She blinked in confusion. “Did the Maritime Authority cut off your partnership?”

“Yeah,” Benjamin replied.

Sophia sat up, leaning against the headboard to clear her head. “You mean Easton’s behind this?”

Benjamin told her all about the email and the termination papers.

Sophia didn’t doubt Benjamin for a second because that was totally Easton’s style.

Benjamin said, “Evan, I know Crestview Group and the Foster Group have a major partnership, and I didn’t want to trouble you, but this project means everything to our company.

“We finally broke into the domestic market, and we’ve invested all our funds into it. I can’t let my personal issues drag the company down. Please, can you help me out?”

“You want me to go talk to Easton for you, right?” Sophia asked.

Benjamin felt a bit guilty. He knew about Sophia and Easton’s history, and asking her for this felt like he was really pushing it.

“Evan, I-” Benjamin hesitated.

“Mr. Locke, I promise you. No matter what, I owe you for what you did for me back then,” Sophia said seriously. Benjamin sounded genuinely grateful. “Thanks, Evan.”

After hanging up with Benjamin, Sophia got up, quickly freshened up, changed her clothes, and headed out. After getting back to Crestview Group and working for a bit, she pulled out her phone and called Easton. “It’s me.”

Easton’s face was already dark, and his tone was even colder. “I know.”

Sophia didn’t beat around the bush. She got straight to the point.

She said, “Benjamin and Stella have some personal issues, but that has nothing to do with Apex Trading. If you’re trying to help Stella settle a score, shouldn’t you at least get the facts straight first?

“Apex Trading is the family business of Benjamin’s late wife, and he’s spent years working tirelessly to keep it afloat. They finally got a chance to break into the domestic market. This means everything to them.

“You just got mad and shut them out of the domestic market. Easton, even if Benjamin offended you, he doesn’ t deserve to be ruined, and Apex Trading shouldn’t have to suffer from it.”

Easton hadn’t expected that after all this time, the first call he’d get from Sophia wouldn’t be about him. It was to plead for another guy. That stung more than anything.

Easton said angrily, “Didn’t Benjamin spend last night talking tough, saying he’d risk everything for his

company? And now, just one night later, he’s got you coming to plead his case, huh?

“Sophia, the way you’re so worked up over Benjamin really pisses me off. If you want me to give Apex Trading

a break, fine. Have Benjamin quit, leave Jenston immediately, and never set foot in Jenston again.”

Sophia was absolutely pissed. She’d never met anyone as bossy and unreasonable as Easton.

“Easton, you’re really crossing the line,” Sophia said through gritted teeth.

“Crossing the line?” Easton sneered. “Isn’t Frank enough for you? Now you’ve got Benjamin, huh?”

Sophia thought Easton was totally out of his mind. She thought, ‘Why is he dragging Frank into this?” Easton continued, “I’ve said my piece. Tell Benjamin to think long and hard about it himself.”
