176 Chapter 176
176.Chapter 176
Ever since Annie found out about Lucas, she started showing up at Grandview Estate every few days just to hang out with him. Now, Lucas was even closer to Annie than he was to Julian.
Every time Sophia got home from work, she’d see Annie bustling around in the kitchen or the living room. Honestly, Annie was more like a mom to Lucas than Sophia herself.
“Mom, you’re back. Look, Aunt Annie is making me a cake. Hurry up and wash your hands. The cake is almost ready,” Lucas exclaimed, running over to Sophia with a big smile.
Sophia ruffled his hair. “Okay, I’ll be right back.”
Annie came out of the kitchen, carrying the cake, and Lucas was jumping up and down, clapping his hands in excitement.
Sophia watched him with a doting smile, unable to help but feel happy seeing her son so cheerful.
“Annie, you’ve been working so hard lately, running between Windmere Estate and Grandview Estate,” Sophia said as she helped set the table.
“It’s no big deal. I’m happy to help. Since I’m not busy with work right now, I’d like to spend time with you and Lucas,” Annie replied.
Annie cut a slice of cake and placed it in front of Lucas, making sure his fork was spotless. She was so attentive, and it was almost motherly.
Sophia smiled warmly. “Annie, your future kids are going to be so lucky to have a mom as gentle and thoughtful as you.”
Annie ran her fingers through Lucas’s hair. “Julian doesn’t really want me to have kids.”
Sophia looked up, surprised. “Why?”
Annie shared with Sophia what Julian had told her that night, and also talked about the accidents she’d faced giving birth in Japoria.
Sophia lowered her gaze, her face unreadable.
She said, “Julian shouldn’t have said that. Honestly, I wasn’t really careful myself back then. I knew I was close to my due date, but I didn’t bother to get a nanny in advance. That’s how things got so messy.”
Annie took Sophia’s hand. “Sophia, you were so young back then, and it was your first time being a mom. There’s no way you could have known everything.
“And you didn’t have any family around. Just thinking about how alone you must have felt really breaks my heart.”
Sophia comforted her. “Annie, all those tough times are behind us. We’re doing great now. Don’t let Julian scare you. It’d be a shame if you two didn’t have kids. Plus, Lucas is already hoping for a friend.” With his mouth full of cake, Lucas said, “Yeah! I want a friend.”
Annie burst out laughing and grabbed a napkin to wipe his mouth. “Alright, I will try my best to find you a friend.”
They chatted for over an hour, just enjoying each other’s company. When Annie realized it was getting late and Julian would be arriving soon, she decided it was time to head out.
As soon as the elevator doors slid open, Annie froze in place.
“Easton?” she stammered.
Easton was just as surprised to see Annie, but he quickly recovered. “Are you here to see Sophia?”
Annie nodded, still a little dazed.
Easton’s lips curled into a faint smile. “Do you want to know why I’m here?”
Annie nodded again.

“Come with me,” Easton said, slipping one hand into his pocket as he stepped out of the elevator.
Annie followed Easton to another apartment, not far from Sophia’s.
Easton unlocked the door with his fingerprint, then turned to Annie, catching her glancing back at Sophia’s door. “Come on in, unless you want her to see you.”
Once they were inside, Easton closed the door behind them without a second thought.
Annie gave Easton a curious look. “Easton, why did you move right next to Sophia out of nowhere?”
