100.Chapter 100
After getting Emily’s call, Sophia had planned to book a flight back to Jenston But Lucas came down with a
fever
The fover hit him hard, and Sophia couldn’t help but blame herself. She thought, I rushed back to Japoria so quickly, and all that traveling really wore him out.
May called Sophia. “Is Lucas feeling any better?”
Sophia tiptoed out of the room, phone in hand. “His fever just broke. Last night really scared me
“That’s good to hear. Don’t wear yourself out, okay? He’s asleep now, so you should get some rest too, May said, worried that Sophia was juggling work and taking care of Lucas all by herself.
Sophia lay down on the bed and let out a sigh. “Okay, I’ll have a rest.
“What’s up? You seem really bothered,” May asked,
Sophia gave her a quick rundown of what was going on at work.
May let out a cold laugh. “Does Easton think you’re not coming back to Jenston? He’s acting so anxious, if we didn’t know about him and Stella, we would think he really cares about you”
Sophia felt conflicted. That day in the car, when Easton asked her, she thought he was trying to two-time her
Even though she knew David wasn’t Easton’s, his thing with Stella was plain as day,
Even if she was naive or pathetic, Sophia wasn’t about to make the same mistake with the same guy twice
That dream was a wake-up call she couldn’t ignore,
“So, when are you planning to come back?” May asked.
“I need to see how Lucas is doing first. I can’t leave him alone” Sophia replied, looking really concerned.
A week later, Sophia still hadn’t shown up at Foster Group in person.
Ever since that meeting, Easton had the stormy aura that made everyone nervous. Not just Gordon, everyone in the company was walking on eggshells. At every meeting, people barely dared to breathe. Anyone could tell Easton had been in a terrible mood lately.
Gordon had reached out to Emily a few times behind the scenes, but every time, the answer was the same. Sophia was still tied up with stuff in Japoria,
That night, Easton stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows in his office, a cigarette between his slender fingers.
The office was dark, not a single light on. The cigarette ember flared and died, and only the city lights through the window gave any shape to the room. His jaw was clenched; he looked like he was about to snap.
He pulled out his phone and dialed Julian.
When Julian saw Easton’s name on his screen, he pretty much knew what was up. Sophia had already called him the night she got Emily’s message, telling him what had happened and that she had already reached Japoria with Lucas.
“Hello?” Julian picked up.
“Why didn’t you tell me Sophia was heading back to Japoria?’ Easton’s voice was cold. It sounded like he was about to put Julian on trial.
After all, before they signed the deal, Easton had made it clear that he wanted to rekindle what he had with Sophia five years ago, and Julian was on board with that.
But now, Sophia had left without saying goodbye and had been gone for quite a while, and Julian hadrit breathed a word to Easton about it. Easton felt totally betrayed by the one guy he thought was on his side. Julian smiled, keeping his tone casual. “Sophia has got some stuff to sort out at Rothea Designs. Crestview Group only took over about half a year ago, so she’s still figuring out some of the business
