But his fingers were all over the place, and somehow he ended up calling Sophia instead, on speaker, no less. Sophia had clocked out after a long night and was heading home to Grandview Estate. As the elevator doors slid shut, her phone started buzzing. Seeing Easton’s name pop up, her first reaction was, ‘Ugh, do I really want to deal with this right now?’
But then she thought, ‘We’re partners now. It’d be kind of rude to just blow him off.
Once she stepped out of the elevator, she answered, “Hello?”
Easton’s vision was starting to blur, but the moment he heard Sophia’s voice, he snapped back to reality for a few seconds. He grabbed his phone, his voice coming out hoarse and strained. “Are you home yet?”
Sophia frowned, sensing something was off. “Easton, are you drunk?”
“Yeah, I drank way too much,” he mumbled.
Sophia rolled her eyes, thinking to herself, ‘Seriously, why is this guy calling me when he’s wasted?’ “If you’re drunk, just go to bed,” she said.
Easton could feel the heat crawling under his skin, getting worse by the second. He was seriously uncomfortable.
Suddenly, there was nothing but silence on the other end. Sophia couldn’t help but feel a little worried. Maybe it was because she’d seen Easton looking pretty rough before.
“Easton, what’s wrong? Why aren’t you saying anything?” she asked.
“Easton, can you hear me?” she called out again.
After a few seconds, Easton finally managed to say, “I’m fine. You should get some rest.”
Then the call ended.
Sophia was baffled. ‘Seriously? He just calls to tell me he’s drunk?’
She shrugged it off and stuffed her phone into her bag. As she opened her door, curiosity got the better of her, and she glanced over at Easton’s place.
The first couple of times, Sophia saw how his place was decorated. She couldn’t help but love it. Maybe that was just an artist thing, always obsessed with perfection.
She remembered what that jerk had said yesterday about the door code being her birthday.
She wondered if she should sneak in while he was out, just to check out the decor again. It wasn’t like she was trying to snoop on his life or anything.
She kept mulling it over as she drifted toward his door.
She stood there for a while, going back and forth in her head. ‘Nah, that’s just not right, she told herself.
She rushed back to her apartment and slammed the door shut.
It was like she was scared she’d change her mind if she waited even a second longer.
Stella came to in the dead of night, her head throbbing. She tried to haul herself onto the bed but ended up falling, pain shooting through her skull.
Her mind was still sharp enough to call Minnie. No time for explanations, she just told her to send someone over right away to clean up the place. Time was ticking. If Easton woke up, he’d for sure come snooping around.
Her head was killing her. After hanging up, she blacked out again.
At the same time, Easton snapped awake, his mind much clearer and the pounding in his head mostly gone. He grabbed his phone and barked at Gordon, “Get over here, now.”
Gordon nearly jumped out of his skin when his phone rang. He glanced at the clock. It was barely four in the

He rushed straight to Easton’s room and found him looking seriously out of it. Gordon hurried over, anxious. ” Mr. Foster, is your headache flaring up again?”
Easton looked deadly serious. He didn’t waste time explaining to Gordon. Just called up the bodyguards and headed over to Stella’s room to check things out.
Just as they arrived at Stella’s hotel room, they caught Minnie practically bolting out, clearly trying to make a
quick getaway.
“So it was you,” Easton said, his voice icy.
“Easton, I… It’s not what you think…” Minnie blurted out, flustered.
