204 Chapter 204
204.Chapter 204
The night was as thick as ink, and the silence was endless.
Sophia stepped out of the shower, wide awake.

She stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the lake outside Grandview Estate, her thoughts lingering on Easton’s lie.
She thought, ‘Innocent, huh?
‘What kind of jerk says stuff like that?
‘Easton, you used to be different.
Those old memories came crashing down on her again..

“Why are you sitting here all alone?” the girl asked sweetly.
The twelve- or thirteen-year-old girl, all innocence, plopped herself down beside the teenage boy.
When he stayed silent, Sophia piped up again, “Don’t be so down! You’re super handsome, I’m sure luck’s on your side. You’ Il get your eyesight back in no time.”
The boy still didn’t respond.
Sophia hadn’t initiated a conversation with anyone in ages. After losing her parents, her classmates and friends only deepened her pain with their words.
The loss of her parents was already unbearable, but their words cut even deeper, each one a blade to her heart.
Those words haunted her, always lingering in her ears.
Gradually, she stopped eating, stopped sleeping, stopped speaking, and even considered following her parents out of this world.
Uncle Edward and Julian grew increasingly concerned about her physical and mental state. After much discussion among the family, they sent her to a rehabilitation center for psychological treatment two months ago.
During those two months, Sophia went along with all the therapy at the rehab center, but that heavy, suffocating feeling in her chest just wouldn’t let up.
Then one day, she was out on the balcony, sketching, while the two auntie caregivers were tidying up her room and gossiping about everyday stuff.
“Did you hear?” one of them whispered.
“Hear what?” the other replied.
One of them said, “Mr. Foster, the eldest grandson of Foster Group, is staying at the rehab center too. He got into a car accident that seriously damaged his corneas. He already had one surgery, but his body rejected the transplant.
“The doctor checked him yesterday and said the first operation failed because of his unique condition. If they can’t find a suitable donor, his chances of recovery are really low.”
Another echoed, “Poor guy. He was born with everything, and now look at him.”
Someone said, “Yeah, Mrs. Irene Foster has been staying at the rehab center with him these past few days. I’ve seen her standing by the window, quietly wiping away tears when she thinks no one’s looking.”
“It’s tough on her,” one of the caregivers sighed. “Her son passed away so young, and years ago her daughter-in-law took off with her eldest grandson back to her own family. She finally managed to get her grandson back, only to face this mess now.”
Another echoed, “Yeah, Mrs. Irene Foster has dominated Jenston’s business scene for years. Holding up an entire international group all by herself is no small feat…”
Sophia had been totally absorbed in her sketch, but the caregivers were gossiping so loudly that she couldn’t help but overhear every bit of their conversation.
Sophia used to think she was the most miserable one in Jenston’s high society, but now she realized there was another poor soul here who might just have her beat.
She couldn’t tell if it was sympathy or just plain curiosity that pulled her in.
Today, she brought her sketchpad out to the big lawn, hoping to find some inspiration for her art. She hadn’t gone far when she spotted the Foster heir, the one the caregivers had gossiped about, sitting alone on a bench.

The moment Sophia saw him, she thought he looked just like a manga protagonist.
‘What a shame, Sophia thought to herself. ‘If his eyes don’t get better, the world will lose another heartthrob, and I’ll lose one more muse for my sketches.’
