May let out a sigh of relief, then immediately started blaming herself. “Seriously, this is all on me. If I’d just put you and Emily in a cab a little earlier, you wouldn’t have been swept away by him at the door.”
Sophia shook her head. “No, I’m at fault too. If I hadn’t pulled out that old bank card Easton gave me, he never would’ve known we were there. And if I hadn’t gotten so drunk, you wouldn’t have been taken away by Ryan.”
Emily had walked in and overheard them. She sighed from the doorway and said, “Honestly, we let their looks get the better of us. I can usually hold my liquor, but with them calling me ‘miss’ nonstop, I ended up way more drunk than usual.
“If I hadn’t gotten wasted, neither of you would’ve been taken away by Mr. Foster or Ryan.”
Sophia and May glanced at Emily, who was standing in the doorway looking all dramatic, and couldn’t help but laugh.
“Forget it, what’s done is done. No use beating ourselves up over it.
“Come on, let’s get this meeting started. If we finalize the plan today, we can arrange to meet with the person in charge at Everwell International when we’re back at work,” May said.
Emily nodded, and the three of them quickly got down to business.
That evening, when they left Crestview Group, Emily was the first to head out. She had plans to meet up with some friends.
May and Sophia got into the car, and May’s phone buzzed with a message. They’d followed Cloud Bar’s official account. yesterday when they were there drinking.
“Damn, is that bastard Easton actually for real? Oceanview Club just bought out Cloud Bar and turned it into a quiet lounge,” May exclaimed.
Sophia was completely at a loss for words.
She cleared her throat and nudged May to drive. “Just forget it. We’re not going back there anyway, so what does it matter?” “Sophia, if Easton really tries to make a move on you, what would you do? And do you actually believe what he said to you that day?” May asked.
Sophia paused for a moment. “I don’t know… I never imagined he’d actually go after me. I honestly have no idea how to answer that. As for what he said, deep down, I really wish it was true.”
She took a deep breath. “Do you think I’m just hopeless?”
May nodded and sighed. “Honestly, when it comes to feelings, you’re totally a mess. But who cares?”
She continued, “It’s not like you’re a saint or anything, you’re just a regular woman. And Easton’s the guy you’ve been into for years. If what he said was real, trust me. If I were in your shoes, I’d feel exactly the same.”
Sophia stared out the window.
“But the truth is, he never really liked me. He never gave me the time of day,” she said quietly.
She thought, ‘And the biggest thing is, he really did change his mind about me.
‘Easton was the one who said he’d marry me back then, and he was also the one who bailed.’
May snorted. “Seriously, who actually falls for someone after getting to know their personality? Most people just go for looks right off the bat.”
Preach. That hit way too close to home.
When Sophia got back to Grandview Estate, she stood in the lobby, hesitating about whether to get on the elevator. Ever since she learned Easton was her neighbor, she had to brace herself every time she came back.
“Mrs. Foster, you’re back?” the new lobby manager called out.
Sophia had only met him in passing the other day, and he’d politely called her Ms. Roth then. Now, out of nowhere, he was calling her “Mrs. Foster”?
Sophia frowned slightly. “Mr. Smith, did you get me mixed up with someone else?”
“Of course not, Mrs. Foster. Last night, when Mr. Foster carried you in, all the drivers were calling you that,” the manager explained.
Sophia pressed her lips together.
Successfully unlocked!
‘That damn Easton. Why does he always have to make people misunderstand?’ Sophia cursed silently.
