Gordon watched as Emily stormed off in anger, feeling helpless.

He thought, ‘Few people understand the burdens Mr. Foster carried, and I’m in no position to speak about them.’ Then he left the hospital with a heavy sigh.
Easton sat in the car, twisting the recorder, his face stormy.
Gordon got in the car and asked, “Should we head back to Grandview Estate or Windmere Estate, Mr. Foster?”
Easton leaned against the seat. “Windmere Estate,” he said wearily.
“Sure thing, Mr. Foster,” Gordon replied.
*****
By the time Easton got back to Windmere Estate, it was already midnight.
Bernard heard the car pull up and hurried to the front gate. “You’re back quite late tonight, Mr. Foster.”
“Yeah,” Easton said, his voice heavy with exhaustion.
After exchanging a glance with Gordon and receiving a silent head shake, Bernard followed Easton inside.
“I need to ask you something, Bernard,” Easton said.
“Of course, Mr. Foster. What is it?” Bernard replied.
Easton sat on the couch. “What was the relationship between Wendy Winters and my father?” he asked in a cold voice.
At the sound of Wendy’s name, Bernard paled. “Mr. Foster,” he asked, his voice trembling, “why are you asking about her all of a sudden?”
Easton saw Bernard’s shock and realized that what Wendy said might be true. “There’s no one else here. Just tell me everything,” Easton said.
Bernard hesitated, then thought, ‘Mr. Foster is twenty-nine now, a grown man, and the head of the Foster family. I can’t keep him in the dark, not with his mother possibly returning.’
Bernard then told Easton everything, all he had witnessed and all the rumors he had heard, holding nothing back.
Now, Easton finally understood the choice his mother had made long ago. He let out a dry, self-mocking chuckle.
Easton waved his hand. “It’s late. Go get some rest. I think I’ve got a handle on most of this. Nobody can know about tonight, especially Irene.
“When she’s better, I’ll bring her back to Windmere Estate. She’s kept this secret to herself all this time. Let’s keep it that way,” Easton said.
Bernard nodded. “Understood, Mr. Foster. You can count on me. I won’t say a thing.”
Easton went to study and sank into the chair, drained. ‘It’s over. Wendy’s gone. She got what was coming to her.’
But every time he thought of what had happened to Sophia tonight, a pain twisted inside him. He never expected this, and he didn’t even know Sophia was there.
Still, Sophia saw him take Stella and her child away. He felt her pain.

The next morning, Sophia woke to find someone sitting by her bed. “May?” she murmured, her voice hoarse.
May stayed all night by Sophia’s bedside. Hearing Sophia call, she snapped awake. “Sophia, are you awake?”
It broke May’s heart to see Sophia so pale, with a wound on her forehead and an arm in bandages. She gently helped Sophia up and said, “I was terrified when Julian called last night.
“You went through all this, and you didn’t tell me a thing. Are we still besties or what?” Her tone was sharp, a mix of anger and worry.
Sophia took May’s hand and said, “Good thing I didn’t drag you into this. If I had…”
May noticed the tremble in Sophia’s voice and the redness around her eyes. She quickly tried to comfort her. “Sophia, don’t cry. It’s all over now. Everyone’s safe. Look, Emily and Paolo are right outside.”
Sophia lowered her gaze, trying to steady hers Successfully unlocked!nd said, “I’m fine, really. Don’t worry about me. I
just wish I could’ve handed Chloe over to the cops and let her fode the consequences.”
“Hey, this was just one of those accidents. No way you could’ve seen it coming. Jenston had a huge snowstorm, and the

“Visibility was awful last night, and those crazy drivers were speeding like maniacs. Honestly, you three are just insanely lucky to have made it out in one piece.”
Sophia just sat there, too overwhelmed to speak.
Seeing Sophia in such a state, May didn’t want to press her further. She simply said, “Just focus on resting for now. Emily and I will take care of everything at work, so don’t worry.”
Not long after May left, Frank called Sophia. “Are you alright, Sophia? I just got back to the office and saw the news about your accident. Which hospital are you at? I’ll come check on you.”
“That’s really thoughtful of you, Frank, but I’m fine. Seriously, you don’t need to come over,” Sophia replied.
Frank went quiet for a few seconds. He wasn’t stupid, and he knew Sophia had been keeping her distance on purpose lately. She was basically showing him, loud and clear, that he shouldn’t keep hoping for anything between them.
But feelings aren’t something you can just turn off. He’d loved her for years, and even if there was only a tiny chance left, he wasn’t about to give up.
Especially that day outside the restaurant, he could clearly tell that Easton’s attitude towards Sophia was no longer as cold as the old rumors suggested. On the contrary, what he saw was genuine care and nervousness.
And the truth was, Easton had always been in Sophia’s heart. With a rival like that, there’s no way Frank was just going to give up without a fight.
“Sophia, I just want to see you. Is that alright?” Frank’s voice was soft and steady.
Sophia was at a loss for words. If she turned him down again, it’d be too obvious she was trying to keep her distance.
“Okay, Frank. See you later,” she replied, forcing herself to sound casual.
When Frank realized Sophia wasn’t turning him down this time, he was over the moon, and he just couldn’t settle down.” Alright, see you later.”
As soon as he hung up, Frank told his assistant to order some flowers as soon as possible. After his morning meeting, Frank headed straight to Jenston General Hospital.
**
Easton sat in his car, phone in hand, kept thinking about calling Sophia, but his finger just hovered over the screen, never actually hitting dial.
He’d been sitting outside the hospital for ages. Just as he was about to get out, a black Bentley pulled up right next to him. Not long after, Frank stepped out of the car.
Easton’s eyes locked onto the bouquet Frank carried, his jaw clenched, and emotions boiling.
