After Frank entered the hospital, Easton’s face darkened, and his hand slipped from the car door. “Back to the office, he said.

Gordon glanced at Easton in the rearview mirror. The air in the car was heavy, and Easton’s expression was icy cold. Gordon hesitated before saying, “Mr. Foster, since we’re already here, maybe we should go upstairs and see Ms. Roth?”

“Sophia probably doesn’t want to see me right now. Just drive,” Easton said in a flat tone.

Gordon didn’t say another word and pulled away from the hospital.

Two weeks had passed since Easton took Stella to Remony Medical Center that night. She’d tried calling and texting him multiple times, but he never responded.

Gordon would call every day, just as a routine, to ask about her kid. That’s all.

Stella knew Easton was deliberately keeping his distance. She thought that with the kid around, he’d drop by every now and then to see him, just like he used to. But he never showed up. Not even once.

She tried to get some info about Easton from Gordon, but he was always strictly professional, never letting anything slip. Stella feared that if things kept going like this, she and Easton would just drift away, and that was the last thing she wanted. ‘What can I do now?’ Stella thought.

Stella stood next to David, phone in hand, watching him read intently. “David, it’s the weekend and the weather’s finally nice. Do you want to go to the amusement park?” she asked.

David’s face lit up. He dropped his book and grabbed Stella’s hand. “Really? Can actually go to the amusement park?”

Stella ruffled his hair. “I’ve got some work to do later, and the nanny can’t take you by herself. How about you call Easton and see if he’s free to take you?”

David was a little unsure at first, but the thought of going to the amusement park was just too tempting. Plus, he hadn’t seen Easton in so long. He’d be over the moon if Easton could come along.

He nodded, his voice ringing out, bright and eager. “Okay, I’ll call Easton right now.”

Stella called Gordon and put David on the phone. Once Gordon figured out that David wanted to talk to Easton, he actually handed the phone over to Easton.

David was such a good kid. All those years Stella spent teaching him to be well-behaved and clever around Easton, and to always say the right thing at the right time, were really showing now.

On the other end, Easton hesitated for a moment before agreeing. He said he was busy that morning, but could meet David

at four in the afternoon.

Stella was delighted. After hanging up, she picked David up and kissed him on the cheek. “You did great, David. Later, you can go have fun with Easton, and once I’m done with work, I’ll come meet you guys, alright?”

David’s face filled with joy, and he nodded enthusiastically.

At Foster Group, after hanging up with David, Easton went right back to work.

Gordon stood in front of the desk, looking like he had something to report but couldn’t quite get the words out.

Easton looked up, confused. “Anything else?”

“Mr. Foster, Crestview Group just sent an email. Ms. Roth won’t be joining us for the meeting today,” Gordon said.

Easton paused, his hand still holding the pen. “Why not?”

“I reached out to Emily directly. She said Ms. Roth was assigned a last-minute project and has to head out to Redrock City for a few days, so Mr. Roth will be filling in for her at the meeting today,” Gordon explained.
