Stella and David had been waiting at home for Easton’s car to show up. The moment her phone rang, she couldn’t help but feel a surge of happiness.

“Hey Gordon, is Mr. Foster here yet? I’ll get the nanny to take David downstairs,” Stella asked.

“Hi, Ms. Weston. Mr. Foster won’t be coming. He had to leave Jenston for a business trip about an hour ago.

“He asked me to arrange for someone to take David to the amusement park instead. Could you please have the nanny bring him down?” Gordon spoke to Stella in his usual calm, steady tone.

Stella was caught off guard by Gordon’s words, and she stood frozen until Gordon’s gentle reminder made her snap out of it. “Alright, please wait a moment,” she replied.

After hanging up, Stella’s face instantly darkened, her whole expression shrouded in gloom. She slowly walked over to David, then suddenly slapped him hard across the face. “Useless,” she said coldly.

David was so startled by the sudden slap that he didn’t even dare to cry out loud. He held his flushed cheek and hid in the nanny’s arms, his body trembling as he sobbed quietly.

The nanny was no longer surprised by scenes like this. Even though her heart ached for David, she couldn’t say anything to Stella. She was only a hired hand, after all.

She quietly grabbed an ice pack from the fridge and quickly pressed it on David’s cheek. After gathering everything they needed, she took him out the door.

Stella sat at home, seething with anger. Easton had promised David, yet he’d stood him up without a word. He’d never acted like this before.

Easton would always call and explain things himself, even when something urgent came up and he couldn’t make it. He’d never just have Gordon pass a message and leave it at that, like today.

The more Stella thought about it, the more frustrated she became. Without Minnie’s help and Tim as her inside man at Foster Group, tracking Easton’s whereabouts had become so much harder.

Stella could only rely on Alex now, but he was a complete madman. The memory of that car accident still troubled her. After wavering for a while, she finally called him.

Alex wasn’t surprised when Stella called. He considered her nothing but useless. “Speak,” he said coldly.

Stella was earnest over the phone. Alex didn’t plan to help her at first, but as she laid out her reasons, he had to admit she had a point.

If Easton and Sophia ended up together, taking on the Roth family would be a nightmare. ‘Why not help her out? If Stella managed to get together with Easton, it’d be a win for the Weston family anyway, Alex thought.

No one really knew what Easton was capable of. He was cold-blooded and would stop at nothing to get his way. To the world, he was just the heir of a wealthy family in Jenston, and some might concede his genius for business.

‘Just thinking about the stuff he got up to over in Menolia gives me the creeps. There’s no way I’ll let Easton become the Roth family’s shield,’ Alex thought.

After hanging up with Stella, Alex immediately had someone look into Easton’s whereabouts. When he found out Easton had left Jenston for Redrock City, he had his people track down Sophia as well.

‘Sophia had taken an early morning flight to Redrock City as well, of course. Easton must be heading there for her; Alex thought.

Stella’s worst fears were coming true. Easton really was trying to win back his ex-wife.
