Sophia couldn’t help but laugh and shake her head, then said seriously, “Easton came all the way to Redrock City to find me and saved my life. If I said I wasn’t moved, I’d be lying.”
As the car stopped at a red light, May glanced over at Sophia with a calm smile. “So, hon, does this mean you’ ve forgiven him and you’re actually thinking about getting back together?”
Sophia gave her a mock-annoyed glare, then said, “No matter how much of a hopeless romantic I am, I’m not dumb enough to jump into the same mess twice.”
Besides, there was still Stella, a wedge stuck between them that just wouldn’t go away.
What really scared Sophia was that, just like before, he’d give her hope and make her believe, only to crush it all again without even meaning to.
After it happened so many times, her heart just went numb. In the end, all that remained was disappointment and scars.
May kept her eyes on the road, letting out a sigh. “Honestly, I’ve got to thank him this time. If it weren’t for him, I might never have seen you again.
“When I heard you were in trouble, I was scared out of my mind. Then Julian told me Easton saved you; honestly, I was shocked, but I was also super grateful.
“Never thought Easton would actually go all the way to Redrock City for you, risking his own neck just to save you. Honestly, I don’t even hate him like I used to.”
Sophia narrowed her eyes, teasing, “Damn, May, you sure changed your tune quick. Yeah, he saved me, but did you forget I had his kid?”
“Humph, do you even know what you sound like right now?” Sophia pretended to be annoyed.
May blinked, half laughing. “What do I sound like?”
“Like a traitor who’s been brainwashed by the enemy,” Sophia shot back.
May burst out laughing. “I’m just calling it like I see it.”

At Remony Medical Center, May parked the car and asked, “Did Irene get transferred here?”
Sophia nodded. “Yeah, just a couple of days ago. Mr. Howard’s got some top-notch equipment here that can really help Irene get her basic functions back.”
May nodded.
They’d barely walked a few steps when May grabbed Sophia’s arm. “That bastard Ryan? He’s not hanging around Remony Medical Center, is he?”
Sophia gave her a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry. I heard he went to Foster Group for a meeting. He shouldn’t be here right now.”
May breathed a sigh of relief. “Great, let’s go. I haven’t seen Irene in a while.”
Sophia just shook her head.
When they got to Irene’s room, Grace’s face lit up the moment she saw Sophia. “Mrs. Foster, you’re finally here. It’s been a while since we last saw you. Mr. Foster said you were off on a business trip overseas. Is that true?”
Sophia knew Easton would never spill anything about the car accident or the mess in Redrock City around Irene and Grace, just so they wouldn’t freak out.
So she played along and nodded.
Irene had just finished her check-up, and the doctor and nurse were helping her out of the bedroom.
As soon as Irene heard Sophia’s voice from inside, she was already itching to see her.

“Irene, Sophia called out.

‘Sophia, you’re back. Easton said you were away on business. Are you working now? Is it at Foster Group or Crestview Group? Why didn’t you tell me anything?” Irene asked, sounding a little lost.
Sophia couldn’t help but notice that Irene’s memory was really starting to fade. She’d already told her a while ago that she was working at Crestview Group, but now Irene had completely forgotten.
The doctor helped Irene settle onto the couch, then turned to Sophia with a polite smile. “Hello, Mrs. Foster, I’ m Eleanore, Irene’s attending physician. Could we have a word in private?”
Sophia didn’t bother correcting Eleanore about her not being Easton’s wife in front of Irene. Instead, she said a few gentle words to Irene, left May to keep her company, and followed Eleanore out of the room.
She figured the doctor probably wanted to talk to her about Irene’s condition.
