255.Chapter 255

Sophia and Eleanore stepped out of the hospital room and stood off to the side in the hallway.

“Dr. Keats, I’m sorry. You can just call me Ms. Roth. Easton and I divorced a few years ago, but with Irene’s current condition, she can’t remember that right now.

“That’s why I didn’t explain it to you earlier. If you can’t discuss Irene’s condition with someone who’s not family, I can step aside and wait for Easton to arrive. You can talk to him then,” Sophia said.

Eleanore was honestly taken aback. Sophia was so graceful and poised, and her beauty was absolutely stunning; she was the kind of woman one only saw once in a lifetime.

‘Is Mr. Foster blind or something?’ Eleanore couldn’t help but think to himself.

Eleanore gave an awkward smile. “Alright, Ms. Roth. Mr. Foster already briefed me about Irene’s condition. If he’s not around, I can still discuss it with you, Mrs. Foster. Uh, I mean, Ms. Roth.”

Sophia kept her cool and just nodded. “Alright, go ahead.”

“We’ve done thorough checkups on Irene these past couple of days, and honestly, her health looks pretty solid; nothing major to worry about.

“As for her legs, we’ll keep up with the physical therapy, and I think she’ll be walking normally again soon,” Eleanore said.

“But when she had the accident, she fell and hit her head pretty hard. The doctors managed to clear the blood clot quickly, but the spot she hurt was really close to the hippocampus.

“That’s the part of the brain that controls memory. If it gets damaged, it’s tough to fully recover. I believe the other doctors have already mentioned this to you,” Eleanore added.

Sophia stayed quiet and just nodded.

“Based on the CT scans from the last couple of days, it looks like Irene might be showing early signs of dementia. But honestly, there’s no need to panic; this is pretty much what we expected, considering her age and the accident.

“After talking it over with some top brain specialists, we’ve decided to stick with medication for now. But honestly, that’s just part of it; the real key is having family around.

“If you guys can make the time, just be there for her, chat with her, and keep her company. That kind of support does wonders for her condition,” Eleanore explained.

Sophia got what Eleanore was saying. Irene was getting on in years, and another surgery would probably be too much for her to handle. Medication was the safest bet for now.

“Thank you, Dr. Keats,” Sophia said.

Eleanore gave a gentle smile. “Ms. Roth, would you mind if we added each other on WhatsApp? That way, if anything comes up with Irene, I can let you know right away.”

Sophia was more than happy to.

Sophia pulled out her phone and scanned Eleanore’s WhatsApp code. Once they’d added each other, Sophia took a moment to really look at her.

Eleanore was young, beautiful, and her voice was soft and soothing. The longer Sophia looked, the more familiar Eleanore seemed, like she’d seen her somewhere before but couldn’t quite remember where.

“Dr. Keats, did you ever live in Japoria?” Sophia asked.

Eleanore was caught off guard, not sure why Sophia would ask that.

She nodded, a little absentmindedly. “Yeah, I did. I studied medicine in Japoria for two years. After I got my master’s, I moved back to Jenston.”

Sophia looked genuinely surprised. “That explains why you seem so familiar. I spent years in Japoria, too.

Maybe we crossed paths at some point.”

Eleanore looked pretty surprised herself.

After finishing up her talk with Eleanore about Irene’s condition, Sophia walked back into the room. Irene was on the couch, totally engrossed in her conversation with May, both of them laughing and enjoying themselves.
