264 Chapter 20-4
264.Chapter 264
She snuck a sideways glance at him, but he caught her. Instead of getting annoyed, he just smiled, leaned in and asked. “Didn’t sleep well last night?”
As he spoke, Easton reached out and gently traced his finger over her brow and eyes.
Sophia froze for a moment, her ears growing warm. She replied softly. “No.”
Irene sat off to the side, watching their interaction, grinning from ear to ear
She suddenly thought, Is this what people online mean when they say they’re shipping a couple from the front row?
“Easton, that antique painting on your wall is gorgeous. Did you get it at an auction?” Irene asked
Sophia glanced over to see what Irene was looking at in the antique painting.
Last year, Easton had personally donated 15 million to the Angel Fund of Crestview Group, and as a token of appreciation, Sophia had bought this antique painting and gifted it to him herself.
She hadn’t expected Gordon’s words during that dinner party to be true. Easton really had hung the antique painting in his office for everyone to see.
Easton led Sophia over to the couch and sat down with her. ‘Sophia gave it to me.’
Irene’s eyes lit up with joy. “Sophia gave it to you? No wonder Easton put it in the most prominent spot in his office; looking at that painting is just like having you here with him every day.”
Sophia was speechless. ‘Please, Irene, that’s enough, she thought.
Sophia managed a sheepish smile.
Easton knew better than to push his luck. When it came to Sophia, there was no rushing things. He’d tried all sorts of approaches before, and they’d all fallen flat.
This time, he knew he had to take it slow and steady, better safe than sorry.
He glanced at his watch. “Irene, we’ve been walking around the company for a while now, and it’s getting late. Let’s go grab some dinner. I had Gordon make a reservation ahead of time.”
Irene reached out and took Sophia’s hand. “Come on, Sophia. Easton hardly ever has time to have dinner with me these days, and now that you’re done with work, we can finally catch up. Let’s have a nice meal and chat tonight.”
Sophia was at a loss for words. She’d already made plans to meet up with Katherine and a few other college friends tonight, but now Irene wanted her to stay for dinner. What am I supposed to do now?” she thought.
Just as Sophia was about to say something, her phone rang. She checked the caller ID; it was Katherine.
“Sorry, Irene, let me grab this call real quick,” Sophia said.
Irene smiled and nodded. “Go ahead.”
Sophia walked over to the big window and picked up the call. “Hey?”
Katherine’s voice came through the line. “Sophia, I’m so sorry, but I just got called in for some overtime tonight. I probably won’t be able to join you guys for dinner. If you make it, could you let the others know for me?”
Sophia felt a wave of relief. With Katherine not going, she really didn’t have much to talk about with the rest of them anyway, now she had the perfect excuse to bail.
“Katherine, something just came up on my end, too, so I won’t be able to make it tonight either. Let’s just pick another day?” Sophia said.
“Alright, let’s do that. I’ll reach out when we pick a new date,” Katherine replied.
After Katherine hung up, Sophia walked back over to the couch. “Irene, let’s go get some dinner.”
Easton watched Sophia help Irene to her feet ready to find out A

Half an hour later, they arrived at the lobby of the Riverside Grand Hotel, owned by Foster Group. Sophia helped Irene out of the car.
Just then, they ran into Annie pushing Edward up to the entrance.
Sophia’s heart sank. ‘Great, just my luck. Edward’s never liked Easton, and now he’s seeing me here with the two of them. How am I supposed to explain this?’ she thought.
