265.Chapter 265
Annie knew exactly what Sophia was worried about. She quickly leaned in and whispered something to Edward. When he gave a slight nod, Sophia shot Annie a grateful look.
Sophia stepped forward. “Uncle Edward, Annie, what a coincidence.”
Before Sophia could finish, Irene walked over to Edward, bent down, and reached out her hand. “Edward, it’s been a while.”
Edward smiled and shook her hand politely. “Mrs. Foster, it’s been a while. How have you been?”
“I’m doing great. And you?” Irene replied with a hearty laugh.
Edward gave a gentle smile and nodded. “Just the usual. At our age, we don’t ask for much; good health is all that matters.”
Irene turned to Easton. “Let’s go have dinner together. Ever since you two got married, our families haven’t really sat down for a proper meal.”
Easton nodded. “Alright, I’ll have Gordon arrange it right away.”
A moment later, Easton helped push the wheelchair, Sophia supported Irene, and together they headed to the Foster family’s exclusive private room.
Easton carefully helped Edward get settled in his seat. For once, Edward actually looked genuinely pleasant toward Easton, which surprised Sophia.
She was still a bit puzzled, but honestly, it was way better than seeing Edward’s usual grim face.
Annie said she needed to use the restroom and dragged Sophia along with her.
“Don’t worry,” Annie said. “Edward is not as hard on Easton as you imagine. Ever since he found out Easton was the one who saved you in Redrock City, he’s not giving Easton the cold shoulder anymore.
Plus, I just told him about Irene’s condition, so he’ll play along for now.”
Sophia felt a weight lift off her shoulders. “That’s a relief. Back when Easton and I got married, he and Uncle Edward didn’t get along at all.
“After we divorced, Uncle Edward took all the blame on himself, felt guilty toward me, and ended up directing his resentment at Easton. I was just worried that if they clashed again, it would put you and Irene in a tough spot.”
Annie squeezed Sophia’s hand. “Relax. We all know what Irene is going through. No one’s going to make things hard for you.”
Sophia smiled lightly. “Come on, let’s get back before they start wondering where we went.”
Back in the private room, Sophia instinctively sat down next to Easton. Easton, ever the gentleman, poured her a glass of yogurt without missing a beat.
Sophia said softly, “Thank you, Easton.”
Irene was having a blast watching the whole thing unfold.
“Edward, look at these two. They’re getting along so well. I bet I’ll be holding a great-grandchild before long,” Irene teased.
Before the words were even out of Irene’s mouth, Sophia almost choked on the yogurt she had in her mouth. Easton hurried to pat her back and handed her a napkin. Sophia couldn’t help but glance at Edward and Annie, but they were totally unfazed, just eating like it was any other day.
‘Seriously? Am I the only one freaking out here?’ she thought.
She covered her mouth with the napkin, then sneaked a glance at Easton. He was nothing like his usual cool and distant self; there was a sly little smirk on his lips, and his eyes glinted with mischief, clearly amused by how flustered she was.

Sophia put the napkin down, bit her lip, shot him a glare, and gave him a not-so-gentle kick under the table for good measure.
Her message was loud and clear. You’re really laying it on thick today, and I’m not having it, she wondered.
Easton took a sip of his wine, his brow twitching ever so slightly. He acted like he hadn’t seen the glare she gave him, and didn’t even flinch at her kick under the table.
