Sophia froze for a few seconds before snapping herself back to reality. She thought, ‘Seriously, what am I daydreaming about?’

Easton watched as Sophia walked toward him, his eyes filled with tenderness and affection, a smile tugging at his lips.

He gently opened the passenger door for her, and once they were both in the car, he drove them to the place they’d chosen for dinner.

The car ride was way too quiet, and Sophia couldn’t stand the awkwardness. She started chatting about random things, just to break the silence.

After they finished talking about work, Sophia asked, “How’s Irene been lately?”

Easton replied, “Same as always. The family doctor comes by every day to check on her, but her memory still hasn’t gotten any better.”

Sophia lowered her gaze and said, “You should spend more time with her.”

Easton didn’t answer right away. After a moment, he said, “Irene wishes you’d come back to see her more often.”

Sophia thought it was a little strange that he said ‘come back’ instead of ‘come visit, but she decided not to dwell on it and just nodded.

“I’ll visit her when I have time,” she said.

Before long, they arrived at the restaurant owned by Charles. As luck would have it, just as they were about to enter their private room, they ran into Charles himself.

Charles’s eyes lit up when he saw Sophia and Easton together. He walked over, grinning from ear to ear. He said, “Hey, Easton, Sophia, what a coincidence.”

Sophia felt a headache coming on at the way he called her ‘Sophia.’

Easton cleared his throat and said, “Call her Ms. Roth.”

Charles immediately caught on and slapped his own mouth. He said, “Oops, slipped out: Ms. Roth, don’t mind me.”

Sophia managed a polite smile and reached out her hand. She said, “Mr. Thorne, nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you, too,” Charles replied.

Charles enthusiastically led Easton and Sophia up to the exclusive private room on the top floor.

He said, “Come on in, it’s really quiet up here. This is actually Easton’s private suite. Next time you come by, Ms. Roth, I’ll make sure the manager brings you straight up here, no hassle.”

Sophia was a bit surprised. From the way Charles said it, it seemed like Easton was involved in this place, too. Noticing her puzzled expression, Easton sat down beside her and explained softly, “Charles didn’t have much going on in Jenston and didn’t want to head back to Harlinton, so I invested in this place for him to pass the time.”

Sophia nodded, finally getting it.

After Charles had the waiter bring out the restaurant’s signature dishes, he just plopped down like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Sophia didn’t mind: since they all knew each other, having a third wheel made things way less awkward than just her and Easton sitting there alone.

She thought, ‘After tonight, Easton and I would be even. I will finally be done owing him.’

Easton watched as Charles sat next to Sophia and started chatting away. His face instantly darkened.

But Charles was totally oblivious.

Charles didn’t stick around in the private room for long. He quickly noticed Easton shooting him a glare that looked like he wanted to murder him on the spot, and it finally hit him.

He thought, ‘Crap, I almost ruined their date.’

He could’ve just left it alone, but once he made that call, Ryan showed up in no time, and even made sure to drag May along.

His excuse? Sophia was here too.
