Ryan’s words still echoed in Easton’s mind as he stood alone by the floor-to-ceiling window in the middle of the night, a cigarette between his fingers.

It wasn’t until dawn that he finally called Ryan.

“Contact Benson,” Easton said.

Ryan groggily sat up, still half-asleep, but the mention of Benson instantly jolted him awake. Benson was Easton’s primary doctor in Menolia.

“Got it, I’ll arrange it right away. When do you want to leave?” Ryan asked.

“The day after tomorrow,” Easton replied.

“Got it,” Ryan said.

After hanging up, Easton changed into clean clothes and left the hospital.

In the car, Easton was focused on his work, while Gordon drove, occasionally checking the rearview mirror to glance at Easton in the back seat.

“Mr. Foster, since we’re leaving the day after tomorrow, do you want me to give Ms. Roth a heads-up?” Gordon asked.

Easton didn’t respond, so Gordon just let it go.

A little while later, Easton suddenly said from the back, “Set up an impromptu meeting with the Crestview Group project team for the morning after tomorrow. Make sure the email highlights that we need the third- phase design plans.”

Gordon nodded. It was clear Easton wanted Sophia to be there for the meeting.

At Jenston News Station, Stella sat in her office, phone in hand, talking to Alex.

“Yeah, I got it. I’ll go apply for leave right now,” she said.

After hanging up, Stella grinned slyly. A few days ago, she’d asked Alex to find someone to track Easton’s movements.

This morning, Alex got word from the private airline that Easton was flying out to Menolia the day after tomorrow, and made sure to mention he didn’t know when he’d be back.

Yesterday, she’d also heard that Easton had checked into Remony Medical Center for the night. She figured Easton was heading to Menolia for brain surgery.

She’d known about his condition for years. She’d seen him suffer through severe migraines and high fevers more times than she could count, and even learned traditional acupuncture just to help him out. She knew exactly what Easton was dealing with.

If things hadn’t gotten this bad, Easton would never have made up his mind to go under the knife.

Stella thought, ‘With Easton leaving, this is my best chance. When Sophia finally loses all hope of being with him, this moment decides everything’

Stella wasted no time putting in for her annual leave at the news station. The lesser-known anchors in the office were absolutely thrilled to see her go.

Stella couldn’t be bothered with them. Once she got back to her apartment, she made sure David was settled in right away.

She said, “David, for the next few days, be good and stay home with the nanny. If you need anything, call Grandpa, but don’t trouble Grandma or Uncle, okay?”

She knew her mom and her brother didn’t like her, and they definitely wouldn’t like David either, so there was no reason to let David cross paths with them

She glanced back at David, who was playing, did some quick mental math, and a sly smile slowly spread across her face.

Easton was expected to be in Menolia for quite some time, so he’d been swamped with work these past couple of days, running back-to-back board meetings.
