281.Chapter 281
Sophia sat at her desk, her breath hitched as she gripped her pen tightly.
“How could this happen?” she asked.

Emily sounded anxious as she replied, “I don’t know. The securities team from the investment department is holding an emergency meeting right now. A few board members have already arrived at headquarters, and they’re all insisting on seeing you. What do we do now?”
Sophia gripped her phone, anxiety twisting in her chest. If she left Rockville now, she’d make it back to
Jenston by six in the evening. She could still deal with those old guys on the board.
But Julian needed her now, and things were getting critical. She thought, ‘What should I do?
She hurried out of her office and called Paolo and Luke in.
She handed them the files she’d organized for the day, then gave Paolo a quick crash course on monitoring the computer data. “If anything weird pops up, let me know right away,” she told them.
She also told Paolo to get in touch with his boss as soon as possible.
“Ms. Roth, are you sure you don’t want me to go with you to Jenston?” Paolo asked.
Sophia shook her head and said, “No, stay here and help Luke. Your top priority is to find Julian, got it?”
Paolo thought, ‘Ms. Roth is counting on me. I can’t mess this up.’ He was determined to carry out her orders, no matter what.
After getting everything under control, Sophia grabbed the fastest flight she could find and rushed back to
Jenston.
Emily got her text and made sure to get to the airport ahead of time, not wanting Sophia to wait even a minute.
As soon as Sophia got off the plane, she gave May a call and told her to head over to the Crestview Group
ASAP.
By the time they arrived at Crestview Group, several board members had been waiting in the conference room for quite a while.
Sophia drew a deep breath, squared her shoulders, and walked in with purpose.
“Ms. Roth, Crestview Group’s stock tanked and hit the limit down today. We need you to explain what’s going on,” one of the board members demanded.
“That’s right. Mr. Roth’s been out of Jenston for ages, and now the company’s in trouble again. When is he coming back?” another pressed.
“Ms. Roth, if you can’t get this under control, maybe it’s time for Edward to step in and handle things himself?” a third board member added, not bothering to hide his impatience.
Sophia hadn’t even managed to sit down before the board members started bombarding her with questions from all sides.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the investment department is already investigating why Crestview Group’s stock plummeted and hit the daily limit today. We’re still figuring out the cause, so please give me a little time.
“I’ll give you a reasonable answer the day after tomorrow, okay?”
The board members glanced at each other. They knew Sophia had people digging into the issue, but with their own interests on the line, there was no way she could just talk her way out of it so easily.
They kept bickering nonstop in the conference room, making Sophia’s head throb, but she stayed patient, explaining things and promising to resolve the crisis as quickly as possible. In the end, all they could do was leave Crestview Group, grumbling under their breath.
Emily and May came over to Sophia, both trying to reassure her. “It’s going to be okay, Sophia. We’ll find a way through this,” Emily said, and May nodder’ in agreement

That night, May stayed late at the office with Sophia, working overtime. She was there mainly to help draft the acquisition contract for Prime Energy.
Even though they’d managed to reclaim the mine, Julian had vanished before he could seal the deal. Sophia was determined to make sure everything was finalized. After all, they’d gone through hell to get it back.
It was only now that May realized just how much chaos they’d been dealing with lately.
