“Come on, don’t be silly. We’re like real sisters. My dad’s always treated you as his own daughter. If you ever need help, you know he’ll drop everything and be there for you,” May replied warmly.

That night, the securities team from the investment department reported back to Sophia: they still couldn’t figure out who was targeting Crestview Group behind the scenes.

Sophia was puzzled.

Sophia grabbed her phone and called. As soon as the phone got through, she asked, “Have you guys picked up on anything unusual while keeping an eye on Alex lately?”

The person on the other end replied, “Ms. Roth, we’ve been watching him every day, but honestly, nothing seems off. He hasn’t met with anyone suspicious or gone to any sketchy places.

“He just goes back and forth between Weston Group and the Weston residence. Even at private events, he only meets people in public settings.”

Sophia listened and felt something just didn’t add up.

She thought, ‘Alex came back to Jenston for payback. There’s no way he’d be lying low and doing nothing.’

Sophia was convinced all the chaos lately had his fingerprints all over it, but right now, she was hitting a wall. She couldn’t even trace who he’d put in play behind the scenes.

The next morning, Sophia arrived at Crestview Group bright and early. Before the market opened, she was already stationed in the investment department, watching as the traders and securities reps sat at their computers, all on high alert.

Sophia had already mobilized every bit of capital she could get her hands on.

Sophia shot to her feet, her legs suddenly weak. She said, “What did you say? Julian was attacked? He’s unconscious?”
