Once Paolo had taken Edward home, Sophia found herself alone in her office. She stared at the financial reports in front of her, knowing that things were bad, but not hopeless.

If she asked Easton for help, there was still a chance to turn things around. But she just couldn’t bring herself to ask for help. After all, there was nothing between her and Easton.

She didn’t want to owe him too much.

Sophia shook off those thoughts and buried herself in work. Somehow, she’d find a way to get Crestview Group back on track.

That evening, when Sophia got back to the Roth residence, Edward and Annie were already waiting for her at the dinner table.

She had barely sat down when her phone rang. The moment she answered, her face went pale.

“I’m on my way. Make sure you get people to seal off the scene. No media, no photos. Got it?” Sophia said, her voice tight with urgency.

After Sophia hung up, Edward and Annie immediately set their utensils down, worry etched across their faces. Edward asked, “What happened?”

Sophia hesitated for a moment, knowing she couldn’t hide this from them. She said, “The Maritime Authority just found illegal goods on one of our ships that docked. I need to go take care of it right now.”

Sophia shot Annie a serious look and said, “Annie, you probably won’t be able to go to the hospital tonight. I need you to stay here and keep an eye on Uncle Edward.

“The media might already have caught wind of this, so they could be camped outside the house. And the authorities might show up tonight, too. Don’t panic. If anyone comes, just have them wait for me until I get back.

“Once I’m done at the Maritime Authority, I’ll cooperate with their investigation.”

Annie’s heart was pounding, but she knew that if Sophia could hold her own against all this mess, then as Julian’s wife, she couldn’t afford to fall apart now. There was no way she’d let herself back down at a time like this.

She squeezed Sophia’s hand, her voice steady as she said, “Go ahead. I’ll take care of things here.”

Sophia nodded, then turned to Edward. She said, “Uncle Edward, don’t worry. We haven’t done anything wrong. Nothing’s going to happen to us.”

Edward’s face went a little pale, but he still nodded.

After Sophia left, Annie grabbed her phone to call Easton, but he didn’t pick up, no matter how many times she tried.

Annie had been debating for days whether to ask Easton for help with Crestview Group. After all, the two families were basically relatives.

And she knew Easton cared about Sophia. There’s no way he’d just sit back and watch.

But she couldn’t read Sophia’s feelings. She wondered if Sophia would be mad if she went behind Sophia’s back and asked Easton for help.

Annie let out a sigh and thought, ‘Whatever. If he’s not answering, I’ll just leave it.’

After Easton’s surgery, he’d been in a coma for almost half a month. Ryan and Gordon had been keeping it under wraps from everyone outside.
