Derrick had just finished getting grilled by the police, but now, with David injured and unconscious in the hospital, he had no choice but to head there with the officers.

On the way to the hospital in the police car, Sophia called May to check on Derrick.

May told Sophia that David was injured and unconscious.

May said, “Don’t worry too much. We still don’t know exactly what’s going on with David. The police don’t have enough evidence to pin anything on Derrick.

“Plus, we’ve got people at the mall looking for witnesses to prove he wasn’t there. So, just hang tight. We’ll talk about everything once we get back from the hospital.”

After hanging up, Sophia’s mind was racing, anxiety gnawing at her. She thought, ‘Getting David back should’ve been a relief, but now he is hurt and out cold.

‘Sure, if David pulls through, that’d be a relief. But if something really goes wrong, the cops would be all over Derrick, and who knows what Easton might do.’

After making sure Emily and Paolo were on top of things for the day, Sophia snatched up her car keys and headed out of Crestview Group without looking back.

When May and Derrick arrived at the hospital, they headed straight to the ICU emergency ward.

Easton and Stella were sitting on the chairs outside the ICU.

May held Derrick back and said, “Derrick, let’s hang back for now. No need to give them a chance to hassle you.”

Derrick kept a cool expression as he said, “Why should I be scared? I didn’t do anything. Actually, I’m curious to see just how far Easton’s willing to go for that woman and her kid.”

As Easton and Stella watched them approach, Stella suddenly snapped, charging at Derrick like she’d lost her mind. She snapped, “You murderer. If anything happens to my son, I’ll never let you off.”

Easton had only been at the hospital for half an hour, but the doctors had already told them three times that David was in critical condition. Seeing Stella sobbing uncontrollably, gasping for breath, his heart twisted with pain.

David was the only flesh and blood Murray had left in this world. If something really happened to the boy, Easton knew he’d never forgive himself.

When Easton saw Derrick, his eyes were blazing with fury.

May stepped up and shoved Stella aside. She said, “Stella, if you’re gonna go crazy, take it somewhere else. The cops don’t have any proof that Derrick kidnapped your kid, so what’s with all the drama?”

Stella was already pissed off, and hearing May talk to her like that just made her snap. She stormed forward, hand raised, ready to slap May across the face.

Derrick saw Stella’s hand about to hit May and immediately reached out to block her.

But from Easton’s angle, it looked like Derrick was about to strike Stella, so he instinctively threw his arm out to stop it.
