343.Chapter 343
Easton picked up the sketchbook and gently flipped it open.
When he saw what was inside, he felt all the strength drain from his body and sank down onto the bed.
Every page was filled with Sophia’s sketches of him.
From the day they met at the rehab center when he was fifteen, through high school, college, and right up to their wedding day, the way he looked in his suit standing before her, Sophia had drawn every moment.
He stared at the sketches of himself, each one drawn by Sophia, stroke by stroke.
He could feel, more than ever, just how deeply Sophia had loved him all these years.
And yet, he’d let her slip away, bit by bit, all by himself.
All those years after their wedding, if he had ever taken the time to come back and truly understand Sophia’s past, he would‘ have realized she was the girl he’d met all those years ago.
But he never did.
That day at the hospital, he’d even doubted her so harshly. Sophia must’ve been heartbroken.
Easton clutched the sketchbook tightly, an ache he couldn’t even put into words welling up inside him, leaving his heart sore and heavy.
At Oceanview Club, Ryan and Charles showed up together. When they opened the door to the private room, the place was thick with smoke and the floor littered with empty bottles.
They had no clue how much Easton had put away, but he was just sprawled out on the floor, totally passed out.
Ryan and Charles had never seen Easton this wasted before. If this wasn’t Oceanview Club, their own place, he’d probably have been jumped by some rival crew already.
It took both of them a ton of effort just to haul him onto the couch.
Charles said, “Easton, wake up! Ryan and I have been searching for you all day. Even your secretary is clueless about your whereabouts.
“If Brittany, the club manager, hadn’t tipped us off that you were here getting wasted, we’d never have known you were passed out like this.”
Ryan gave Charles a quick smack, and Charles hurriedly patted his own mouth.
“My bad, my bad,” Charles muttered.
Ryan let out a long sigh. He knew Easton must’ve seen today’s trending topic, and found out about Sophia’s relationship with Derrick, and that they even have a kid that old.
If he were in Easton’s shoes, he’d feel just as messed up inside.
Ryan said, “Easton, wake up! What’s the point of all this?
“Go talk to Sophia, get everything out in the open, and give yourself some closure. Then you can just wish her and her family all the best. That’s way better than beating yourself up like this.”
Charles quickly tugged at Ryan’s sleeve. “Come on, Mr. Howard, what’s with all that blessing talk? If it was me, I wouldn’t care if she’s married or has a kid. If she’s the woman I love, I’d fight for her, no matter what.”
Ryan gave him a look, but couldn’t help but agree, even if he didn’t like it.
He sat down next to Easton. “Easton, you just got out of surgery a few days ago, and now you’re putting yourself through hell. If you really want to fight to get Sophia back, you’ve got to take better care of yourself first.”
Easton opened his eyes and let out a bitter, mocking laugh. “Fight for her? With what? She doesn’t love me anymore. After the divorce, she moved on with another guy, and now they even have a kid. Their kid is already so big…”
He grabbed his glass and took a long drink, muttering to himself, “I let her down. I failed her.
