Ryan continued, “But the doctor said the success rate of the surgery was only fifty percent. If it failed, he wouldn’t just go blind; he could die. He almost gave up, but in the end, he decided to take the risk.

“Easton never said it out loud, but we all knew he wanted to fix his condition so he could start over with you.

“Easton never expected that even though he won that gamble, so much would happen at Crestview Group while he was in a coma. Stella took his phone while he was out cold. That night, he really had no idea you’d called him.”

Ryan told Sophia almost everything Stella had done over the years, and he made it clear that all the misunderstandings between her and Easton were Stella’s doing.

Aside from being surprised by Easton’s illness, Sophia was completely unmoved by everything else.

Even now, with all the truth laid bare and Easton having punished Stella, none of it meant anything to Sophia anymore.

Sophia said, “Ryan, thanks for telling me all this. Honestly, I already know about everything, even her thing with Murray. It’s all in the past, and Stella’s already gotten what she deserves. I don’t want to talk about it anymore.

“Ryan, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading out.” Sophia shut the folder.

She didn’t even wait for Ryan to respond before grabbing her bag and heading straight for the door.

Ryan watched Sophia leave, and suddenly remembered something.

He slapped the back of his head. “Damn it! How did I forget to mention what happened between Easton and her at the sanatorium? I spent all that time talking about how Stella hurt her, but I missed the most important part.”

‘Sophia probably still thinks Easton and Stella had a thing, and she’s still got her guard up, Ryan thought.

Ryan let out a long sigh.

‘Easton, I wanted to help you, but I guess I just blew it, Ryan thought..

May was the one who drove Sophia here today. When Ryan asked Sophia out that morning, they were shopping. After they agreed on a time, the two of them headed over together.

But May didn’t want to run into Ryan, and she decided to wait in the car outside the café for Sophia.

When Sophia got in the car, looking totally unfazed, May couldn’t help but ask, “So, what did that guy Ryan say to you?”

Sophia buckled her seatbelt and gave a little smile. “Nothing special. He just filled me in on some stuff about Easton and Stella, probably thinks I’m still hung up on them. But honestly, Katherine’s already told me all that anyway.

“And all those rumors about him and Stella? Easton’s gone over it with me a bunch of times. True or not, I honestly don’t care anymore,” Sophia said.

May squeezed Sophia’s hand. “Sophia, if you can really move on, I’m honestly happy for you.”

Sophia patted May’s hand and smiled softly. “When it comes to feelings, sometimes all it takes is a second to wake up.

“I used to feel so down, just because I thought I wasn’t worth it. But now, I’m done thinking about all that. I’ve really let it go.”

May dropped Sophia off at her apartment and then drove away.

When May got back to the law firm, her assistant, Flora, bounced over with a huge grin and gave her a thumbs–up. “May, you’re just too popular! Another massive bouquet showed up for you today. I already hauled it into your office.”
