She pushed him away, sounding a bit annoyed. “Ryan, have you been digging into my business?”

Ryan pulled her right back into his arms. “My dad and your dad, Forrest, go way back. Even if they didn’t, do you really think it’d be hard for me to find out about you?”

May narrowed her eyes, giving him a once–over. ‘Such a cunning, and dangerously charming, old fox,‘ she thought.

Beatrice’s birthday party was held at the Summit Hotel over the weekend.

Sophia hadn’t planned on going with Julian and Derrick, but after May’s relentless pestering, she finally gave in and tagged along.

That night, she wore a simple nude–pink mermaid dress with a graceful strapless neckline that revealed a smooth expanse of her back, perfectly accentuating her curves.

The hall was filled with familiar faces from Jenston’s business world.

To Sophia’s surprise, May’s father, Forrest, was also there.

“May, what’s your dad doing here? Doesn’t he usually avoid these business parties?” Sophia asked.

May linked arms with her and followed the waiter to a quiet spot on the other side of the hall.

May said, “My dad and Ryan’s father are old classmates. He even lived with the Howard family for a while when they were

kids. Beatrice treats him like a second son.”

Sophia covered her mouth and giggled. “Wow, you and Ryan really are meant to be. Who knows, maybe your families secretly arranged your engagement when you were little.”

May pinched her waist playfully. “Don’t jinx it! Take it back, quick!”

Sophia couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

Sophia teased, “Didn’t you say you’d give Ryan a shot? If there really was an engagement, maybe everything would go even smoother for you two.”

May shot back, “No way! Ryan’s still being tested. If there was an engagement, he’d be totally out of control.”

Ryan was busy that evening, having arrived early to help welcome the guests. When he spotted May and Sophia coming in, he quickly had someone greet them and set them up in a quieter corner of the hall.

Just as the event was about to start, a black, limited–edition Maybach rolled up to the hotel entrance. The guests all turned to look. Everyone knew it belonged to Jenston’s richest man, the CEO of Foster Group.

As Easton stepped out of the car, the reporters swarmed around, jostling for the best shot.

His bodyguards from the car behind quickly flanked him, escorting him inside.

Easton was dressed in a bespoke black suit, his tall, striking presence radiating a signature icy restraint.

Ryan personally greeted Easton at the entrance, and as the two of them walked into the hall, everyone made a beeline to say hello to Easton.

Once inside, Easton glanced around, searching for Sophia, but she was nowhere in sight.

“I’ve got May and Sophia settled in a side room. If you want to talk to her, tonight’s your best chance. That’s as far as 1 can help you, bro,” Ryan said.
