Easton didn’t catch it at first. “What did you say?”

Katherine felt her legs buckle, her palms drenched in sweat. “David and Lucas were kidnapped.”

Easton shot to his feet, his chair slamming into the wall behind him.

He rushed out of the conference room.

The senior executives and department heads were left there, exchanging bewildered glances.

Gordon had no idea what was happening, only that Katherine had just called, urgently asking for Easton.

He thought, ‘Is David in trouble again?’

Gordon said a few words to the execs, then postponed the meeting until tomorrow.

Then he hurried out of the conference room.

Easton floored it and made it to the police station in half an hour.

Katherine, her voice trembling and face etched with guilt, hurried over to him. “Mr. Foster, it’s all my fault. I failed to take care of David.”

Easton’s expression was icy, worry clouding his eyes, and he blurted out, “Where’s Sophia?”

Katherine had managed to calm herself down and led Easton into the police lobby. There, they saw Derrick with his arm around Sophia, who looked totally out of it, like all the fight had gone out of her.

The chief officer hurried over as soon as he saw Easton. “Hi, Mr. Foster.”

Easton greeted him and asked, “What’s going on?”

The chief gave a quick rundown of what they knew and pulled up all the nearby surveillance footage.

Derrick helped Sophia into a seat nearby, and Easton couldn’t take his eyes off her.

“Mr. Foster, can I talk to you for a minute?” Derrick said.

Easton nodded and followed Derrick out of the lobby.

Derrick pulled out his phone and replayed the footage from Beatrice’s birthday party, breaking it down for Easton. He said that the person who attacked them that night could be Catherine, who had been off the grid for days.

Then Derrick brought up the video of the clown kidnapping the two kids. “Check out the way they move and run. No doubt, it’s the same person.

“Mr. Foster, the cops won’t be able to find the kids in the following hours. Catherine is seriously dangerous. We need to come up with our own plan to get the kids back.”

Easton looked tense as he grabbed his phone and called Fletcher, telling him to take his men and head straight to the location Derrick just sent, and start tracking down Catherine.

Derrick also told Paolo to take his guys, splitting up so both teams could search at the same time.

Just then, Sophia’s phone started ringing.

Derrick came over and said, “Sophia, is that your phone?”
