366.Chapter 366
“Wait, let me guess. Your first gig in Jenston is helping Easton fight for custody?” May suddenly blurted out, sounding half amused, half nosy.
Allison froze mid-step, her hand still on her luggage, and gave May a stunned look. Her face turned serious as she nodded.
May’s whole vibe changed in a flash. “Girl, seriously? After all this time, you show up and we’re already rivals?” Allison’s jaw dropped. “Hold up, Mr. Foster’s ex is your client?”
May wagged her finger. “Uh-uh, not my client.”
Allison let out a sigh of relief. She didn’t want to go up against someone that tough right after arriving in Jenston.
“She’s not just my best friend. She’s family to me,” May said.
May let out a long sigh, but she was still polite about it. “I’m heading out. My car’s just outside. We’ll have plenty of chances to meet up, so let’s talk more next time.”
Allison watched May head for the exit with her suitcase, still trying to process that Easton’s ex-wife was actually May’s best friend. But now, she noticed something else.
Allison stared for a moment. ‘Wait, isn’t that Ryan?’ she thought. ‘So, the rumors about Ryan dating someone are true, and that someone is May, someone I actually know?’
Her gaze turned complicated. Fate sure worked in mysterious ways.
She’d never expected that Sophia was May’s bestie.
On her first day at Foster Group headquarters, Katherine personally showed Allison to the legal department. “Allison, this is your office. We’ve got a quick meeting in ten minutes. Mr. Foster wants you there, too,” Katherine said.
Allison nodded slightly. “Got it.”
Katherine looked unfazed, as if Allison’s transfer to Jenston headquarters was exactly what she’d expected. Allison’s father was a professor at the Menolia branch’s research center and also held 5% of Foster Group’s shares as a board director, one of the original board members from Easton’s grandfather’s era. Easton had always shown great respect for these senior figures, so over the years, he put a lot of trust in Allison and relied on her heavily. And she truly was capable. She was meticulous, responsible, and always professional.
For years, she’d overseen all legal matters for the Menolia branch, and Easton had publicly praised her work multiple times at shareholder meetings.
Not only was she outstanding at her job, but she also got along effortlessly with her colleagues. People throughout the company genuinely liked her.
Everyone liked her, except Katherine.
From day one, Katherine just couldn’t warm up to Allison. She always thought Allison was putting on an act, so her attitude was icy, and Allison gave her the same cold shoulder right back.
It all started back in Menolia. The plan was for Allison and Easton to attend a meeting together in Windmere. But nobody knew why, at the last minute, Easton picked Katherine instead.
After that, time and again, Allison deliberately gave Katherine a hard time at work, always looking for ways to make things difficult for her.
So, in Katherine’s eyes, Allison wasn’t nearly as generous, gentle, or approachable as she appeared. On the contrary, she saw her as incredibly jealous and vindictive.

And now, Easton’s first order for Allison was to go head-to-head with Sophia over Lucas’s custody, which only made Katherine’s dislike for her grow even stronger.
After the meeting, Allison followed Easton into his office.
“Mr. Foster, about Lucas’s custody. Should I talk to Sophia and her lawyer first, find out what she wants, and then we can go to court?” Allison asked.
Easton didn’t bother looking up from his papers, his voice cool. “No need.”
Allison couldn’t hide her shock.
‘How did Mr. Foster flip his decision in just a few days?’ she wondered. ‘Could it be that he and Sophia are patching things up?’
