May thought he might be trying to drop a hint at Sophia so that she should consider letting him out of the digital doghouse so they can talk about Lucas more easily.

‘How sly!’ she thought.

Still, it was a rare sight to see Jenston’s richest guy looking so meek. May was secretly loving it.

Sophia had no clue that May was having a whole mental drama in those few seconds. She just caught May grinning.

Sophia shot her a look and gave her a playful pinch.

May quickly tried to look serious.

When they arrived at the hospital room, Lucas was already dressed and sitting on the bed, waiting for Sophia and the others. Annie stood beside him, holding his water bottle.

“Mommy, you’re off work. I missed you so much,” Lucas called out, happily standing up on the bed and stretching his arms for a hug.

Bathed in the golden glow of sunset, Easton couldn’t take his eyes off Sophia and Lucas as she hugged her son. The sight made his heart turn to mush.

If he could, he just wanted to wrap them both up in his arms and never let go.

“Lucas, is your mom the only one you can see? Did you forget about me?” May joked.

Lucas poked his little head out of Sophia’s embrace, grinning. “Hi, May, I missed you too!”

Back when Lucas had his accident, May was out of the country.

She reached out and dotingly ruffled Lucas’s hair, her voice full of tenderness. “I’ve missed you so much, too.”

Sophia could see May was on the verge of tears, so she gently took her hand and soothed her, “Thank god he’ s fine now.”

May sniffled, her voice thick with emotion as she said, “You’re right.”

Lucas glanced up at the two guys standing behind his mom, looking totally shocked.

“Mommy, why is David’s dad here?” he asked.

Easton and Sophia were both left speechless.

They totally forgot that Lucas used to think Easton was David’s dad. Sophia had a brainstorm to think about how to explain.

Easton walked over to Sophia and rested his hand gently on Lucas’s head. “I’m not David’s dad.”

,Lucas glanced at Sophia, still puzzled, and she gave him a nod.

Annie and May figured it was best to let this little family of three have the room to themselves and talk things through.

So, they headed out with Gordon.

A little while later, Sophia stepped out, too, leaving Easton and Lucas alone for some father-son time.

As soon as Sophia came out, May and Annie hurried over. “So, did Lucas get it now?”

After Sophia left, Easton and Lucas just sat there in the room, sneaking glances at each other in awkward

silence.

Easton perched on the edge of the bed, not knowing what to do with his hands. Right now, facing his own kid was way more nerve-wracking than any business deal he’d ever closed.

Lucas, on the other hand, was totally unfazed. Ever since he found out this man was his dad, he’d just been messing with his toy car, not even glancing up at him.

Easton finally broke the silence. “Lucas, you really like cars, huh?”

Lucas nodded. “Yeah.”

“Want me to buy you some cars next time?” Easton asked.

Lucas shook his head. “No need.”

Easton pressed his lips together. “Anything you want to say to Dad?”

Lucas looked up at him. “Are you going to take me away from Mommy?”

Easton was speechless. ‘Seriously, how is he so like his mother? Just one sentence from either of them and I’ m totally done for, he thought.

“No, I promise. Your mom and I will both live with you, and we’re not separate anymore,” Easton said.

“But you and Mommy are divorced, right? How can you still live with us?” Lucas asked.

Easton was speechless. Again.

He cleared his throat, trying to ease the awkwardness. “Lucas, do you want your mom and me to get back
