Easton’s head was starting to hurt. ‘Is this kid really only five?’ he wondered.

He raised an eyebrow and tried to be patient. “Lucas, I’ve always really liked your mom-”

“Then why did you get divorced?” Lucas shot back.

Lucas was too quick-witted for a kid his age. Easton was stumped by that question.

Easton rubbed his temples. “I’ll explain it to you when you’re older.”

Lucas slipped the toy car into his pocket and got ready to get out of bed. “We’ll talk about it later. I’m getting discharged. Mom’s been waiting outside for a while. I don’t want to leave her alone.”

Easton knew there was no way Lucas would accept him overnight. He’d just have to take it slow.

Lucas and Sophia were both cut from the same cloth, stubborn as mules.

But that didn’t matter. From now on, his whole life would be devoted to them.

After Sophia and Lucas left the hospital, Gordon walked over to Easton. “Mr. Foster, the renovation team has already started today. Silvermoon Bay will be fully renovated in a month.”

Easton’s gaze lingered on Sophia and Lucas as they walked away, not looking away for a long while. He gave a slight nod.

Gordon continued, “Mrs. Irene Foster just called me. She wanted to know when Mrs. Sophia Foster and Lucas would be free to come over to Windmere Estate for a meal.”

Easton’s eyes darkened. Sophia still hadn’t unblocked his number or WhatsApp. He had no idea how he was supposed to reach her.

“Let’s wait a few days,” Easton said. “Sophia’s already back at Crestview. She’s no longer the main lead on the Southern Development Project, but she’s still handling all the design work.

“Find out when she’s planning to visit the Southern Development Zone for an inspection. I’ll go meet her then and use that chance to talk to her.”

Gordon nodded in understanding. “Understood, Mr. Foster.”

Easton didn’t get back to Foster Group until eight that night. Everyone else was long gone.

As he stepped into the executive elevator, Allison suddenly called out to him.

“Working late again, Mr. Foster?” she asked.

Easton nodded, answering offhandedly, “Yeah, got a last-minute meeting with the Menolia branch. What about you? Why are you still here?”

‘Allison hugged a stack of files, looking a bit resigned. “No choice. I just started with the legal team here at HQ, so I’m still getting the hang of things.”

Easton’s voice was neutral. “You’ve always been meticulous. I trust you with the legal department.”

As Easton was about to step into the elevator, Allison proposed, “Have you eaten yet? Want me to order you

some takeout?”

“No,” Easton replied.

The elevator doors slid shut, and Allison couldn’t help but smile to herself.

It had been ages since she’d gotten to keep him company at work like this. Even though he was still distant and always turned down her dinner invitations, Allison couldn’t help but feel happy. At least he wasn’t shutting her out completely.

Even when he was head over heels for Stella, he’d never treated her coldly. As for Sophia, his ex-wife, Allison kept telling herself that since they’d split years ago and weren’t even fighting for custody anymore, maybe Easton had decided to start a new chapte

‘Sophia couldn’t hold onto him back then, so what chance does she have now?’ Allison thought smugly.

Allison smirked to herself. She’d never been able to figure out why Easton and Stella broke up. Everyone around him was tight-lipped, and no matter how much she tried to dig, she couldn’t get a single clue.

‘Whatever. Men are all the same. Falling for whoever’s in front of them, she thought.

Allison stepped into the staff elevator and checked herself out in the mirror, feeling a surge of confidence. She refused to believe Easton could stay immune to her charms.
