Sophia and Emily, with the project team leader guiding them, checked out the area that had just been finished in phase one.

Sophia instructed, “Emily, snap a picture of that spot over there and mark it on the plans for me.

“That’s what we need to fix tomorrow. If we mess this up, the environmental guys won’t sign off on it.”

Emily nodded in response, grabbed her camera, and snapped the shot right away.

Sophia walked over to the artificial waterfall area, her brows furrowing as she took a look.

She was just about to ask Emily to come over and take a picture when, not realizing Easton was right behind her, she spun around and bumped straight into his chest.

Sophia held her forehead in pain, wincing.

Easton quickly reached out to gently rub her forehead, trying to ease the pain.

He apologized, “Sorry. I didn’t expect you to turn around so suddenly.”

Sophia instinctively shot him a glare, but with everyone watching, she couldn’t really blame him.

There were more than a dozen staff members following them in for the inspection.

Ignoring him, Sophia stepped around him and went straight over to Emily to continue discussing work.

Sophia was busy all day, barely getting a chance to take a break.

Emily handed her a bottle of water. “Sophia, Gordon said Mr. Foster had set up dinner tonight. Are we joining them?”

Sophia twisted off the cap, took a casual sip, and shook her head. “No. I have to go back and work overtime tonight.

“There’s just too much going on at Rothea Designs, and Jason’s waiting for me to join a meeting.”

Emily nodded. “Alright. I’ll let them know.”

Sophia was still buried in the blueprints. “Wrap up what you’re working on. We’ll head out in 15 minutes.” “Sure,” Emily answered.

Ever since Sophia got back from her vacation, she’d barely had a moment to breathe.

At lunchtime, Easton had Gordon arrange for them to eat downtown, but with so much work piling up, Sophia turned him down and made do with a simple meal with Emily at the construction site cafeteria.

To Easton’s surprise, she turned down dinner as well.

When Easton stepped out of the conference room, he saw Sophia and Emily just driving off.

Gordon hurried over. “Mr. Foster, sorry, but Ms. Roth said she was busy tonight and wouldn’t be joining us for dinner.”

Easton withdrew his gaze, feeling a wave of defeat in his eyes, His chest felt heavy, weighed down by a frustration he couldn’t quite put into words.

“Call her from your phone,” he said.

“Uh… Okay,” Gordon replied.

Gordon quickly pulled out his phone and called Sophia.

Sophia picked up right away. “Hello, Gordon.”

Before Gordon could say anything, Easton grabbed the phone from him. “Sophia, do you have a moment? I want to talk to you about Lucas staying at Windmere Estate this weekend.”

The custody agreement had been signed a few days ago, and according to the terms, Lucas would be staying with Easton at Windmere Estate every weekend.

Sophia had been swamped with work and meetings lately. If Easton hadn’t called her now, she probably would’ ve forgotten all about it.

She pondered for a moment. “Alright, I understand. But I have an important meeting I need to rush back to the office for. How about I call you back later?”

“How late?” Easton’s voice was flat, giving nothing away.

“Around ten tonight. I’ll call you then,” Sophia added.

Easton raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure you’ll be able to get through to me?”

‘Wait a second… I totally forgot I put his number on my blacklist a while back, Sophia realized.

“I’ll call you. Don’t worry,” she said.

“Alright. I’ll be waiting,” Easton replied. After hanging up, a faint smile tugged at his lips.
