She took him to the mall to browse around, and after picking out some sketching supplies, she planned to drop him off at Windmere Estate.

As soon as Lucas got his hands on the sketch pens and drawing pad he’d been dreaming about, his mood instantly lifted. He grabbed Sophia’s hand, beaming, and hurried to get into the car.

Just as Sophia got onto the overpass, a van suddenly slammed into her from behind.

The crash scared Lucas so much that he started crying right away.

Sophia hopped out, opened the back door, grabbed Lucas and hugged him tight, soothing him.

She muttered, “Lucas, don’t cry. It’s alright. The car just got bumped a little, but you and Mommy are both safe, see?”

The van driver rushed over, looking super guilty. “Sorry, ma’am. I really didn’t mean it. My tire blew out just now, and I lost control of the wheel.”

Sophia frowned and glanced at the van. Yep, the tire really was blown.

“It’s fine, we’re okay. Just call the police and your insurance, okay? I’ve got stuff to handle, so can you make it quick?” Sophia said.

The van driver nodded quickly. “Alright. I’ll get on it right now.”

Sophia ignored the driver and turned all her attention to Lucas, hugging him tight and gently soothing his

nerves.

“Ms. Roth, did you get into an accident?” Sophia turned around and saw Allison from Foster Group’s legal department, who just happened to be driving by.

Sophia and Allison had only met once before, when they were signing the co-parenting agreement. Sophia was waiting outside the café for May, and when they came out, May introduced them to each other. Sophia smiled at her slightly. “Yeah. That van behind us accidentally rear-ended me.”

Allison knew Sophia was definitely dropping Lucas off at Windmere Estate today, and since the overpass was the only way there, she’d gotten there early with her assistant and waited by the entrance.

She’d only been tailing Sophia for a short while when she saw her get into a car accident. Couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity.

Originally, she was going to use work as an excuse to call Easton later, but now there was no need.

Allison pulled up in front of Sophia’s car, and she and her assistant got out, heading over to them.

“Need a hand?” Allison asked warmly.

Sophia glanced at her phone. “It’s okay, you don’t have to, but thank you. The driver already called the cops and insurance, so things should get wrapped up pretty quickly.”

Allison glanced at the van and Sophia’s car. “Hey, it’s not really safe for you to stand here holding Lucas. “Why don’t I give you a lift wherever you need to go? My assistant can stay and deal with the car and the police. Sound good?”

Sophia looked at Lucas, who was still sniffling into her shoulder, and nodded her agreement. “Thanks, Allison. Sorry for the trouble.”

Allison gave a gentle smile. “No worries. May and I go way back.”

Just before noon, Allison’s car rolled up to the gates of Windmere Estate. Bernard, the butler, spotted the unfamiliar vehicle and wouldn’t let her through.

“Allison, we’ve arrived. Thanks so much for today. Next time, let’s grab dinner with May,” Sophia said.

She hopped out of the car, taking Lucas with her

Bernard spotted them and hurried over, beaming. “Mrs. Foster, you’re back. The old Mrs. Foster and Mr. Foster have been waiting for you two for ages.”

Sophia gave a small smile. “Lucas, say hello to Bernard.”

Lucas obediently greeted him.

Bernard’s eyes instantly reddened with joy. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Lucas Roth.”

Just then, Easton came out, supporting Irene as they walked together.

Sophia had planned to just drop Lucas off and head out, but seeing this welcoming scene, she realized there was no way she’d be leaving anytime soon.

Irene’s hands trembled with excitement as she saw Sophia and Lucas arrive. She gently stroked Lucas’s cheek, her face lighting up as she looked at Sophia.

Irene said, “I’ve been waiting so long for you to come back from your business trip. Hurry inside. Grace already made all your and Lucas’s favorite dishes.”

Just then, Allison stepped out of the car and called out to Irene with a friendly greeting. “Mrs. Foster, long time no see.”
