379.Chapter 379
Lucas suddenly blurted out that line, catching Sophia off guard. ‘What’s gotten into this kid?’ she thought.
Easton had only hung out with Lucas for a few hours earlier in the afternoon, and seemingly, Lucas had already switched sides.
‘Should I call Lucas a little turncoat, or just admit Easton’s got a real talent for getting people wrapped around his finger?’ Sophia mused.
“Lucas, it’s late. Head to bed early. If you don’t, I guess you don’t want to go to the amusement park tomorrow, huh?” Sophia said.
Lucas stuck out his tongue, not really sure why Sophia was upset, but one thing was clear that she showed she wasn’t happy.
“Okay, I’ll go to bed now,” Lucas replied.
Sophia looked up and saw Easton standing there in his lounge-wear, looking all chill as he watched her and Lucas.
“It’s getting late. You should get some rest, too,” Sophia said.
Before Easton could even respond, Sophia closed the door right in his face and didn’t hesitate to lock it.
He shook his head with a small smile. ‘It’s not like I was going to do anything. I just wanted to see them before bed, he thought.
He didn’t expect Sophia to be so guarded, realizing things with her wouldn’t be going to be as easy as he had imagined.
On Monday, Sophia was back at Crestview Group for work when she spotted Julian rolling his suitcase out of the building.
“Julian, didn’t you have an early flight to Harlinton? Why are you still at the office? Where’s Annie?” Sophia asked, glancing behind him.
Julian held up a file and shrugged helplessly. “Got called back for an urgent document.
“A minor incident happened at Prime Energy Corp’s mine in Riverdale, so I needed to jump on a half-hour video call with Derrick. Annie had to catch the flight ahead of me, so I’ll take the next one.
“And get this. She picked up a ton of gifts to
and left them in my office.”

Julian pushed the suitcase in front of Sophia for her to see.
Sophia chuckled. “Annie’s had her mind on Lucas lately, so it’s no wonder she forgot about the little stuff.” Julian smiled indulgently. “Alright, I’m heading out now. Hughes Corporation’s hosting a party tonight, so I need to get there ahead of time.
“If anything comes up at work, just call me, or reach out to Derrick. He’ll be back from Riverdale early tomorrow morning.”
Sophia nodded. “Sure thing. Take care. Don’t worry about the company. I’ve got it handled.”
Later that evening, while Sophia was still working overtime, she got a call from the butler at the Roth residence.
“Ms. Roth, bad news. Mr. Roth was perfectly fine this afternoon, but he barely ate any dinner, and now he’s feeling unwell. He’s lying in bed, saying he’s dizzy,” the butler said anxiously.
As soon as Sophia hung up, she rushed out of the office.
When she reached Crestview’s front entrance, it hit her that her car was still in the shop.
Sophia quickly called Emily to have a driver bring around a company car.
Before the call could even go through, Easton’s car pulled up beside her. “What’s going on? You look like you’

ve seen a ghost,” he said.
Sophia didn’t have time to wonder why Easton was waiting outside her office. She said anxiously, “Uncle Edward’s really sick at home. I need to rush back and get him to the hospital.”
Easton stepped out, reached for Sophia’s hand, and opened the passenger door for her. He reassured her gently, “Don’t worry. We’ll get you home right now.”
Sophia’s hand was freezing. As soon as Easton got in, he bumped up the temperature.
Next, he pulled out his phone and called Ryan, asking him to have a doctor and ambulance on standby while rushing back to the Roth residence.
